- Description:
- Hog Mountain, 1979. View of the home of Elisha Winn (1777-1842) built prior to 1818. When Gwinnett County was created in 1818, this home served as the site for county court, elections, etc. for over a year.
2003/06/17: Built around 1812 by Elisha Winn, the house and barn served as Gwinnett County's first courthouse. It is the county's oldest surviving structure. Among those related to Winn by blood or marriage are: C. H. Brand, a lawyer who served as president of Brand Banking and went on to national fame as a key member of the U. S. House of Representatives; and Thomas Elisha Winn, a lawyer who served a term as a U. S. Representative. Over a century, the Winn house was occupied and cared for. After the Second World War, it fell into disrepair. Thanks to the Gwinnett Historical Society, the home has been completely renovated to the way it looked in 1870. - External Identifiers:
