- Gordon County, 1960s. Dean D. Hayes poses for a photograph in a corn field which is said to have yielded 200 bushels of corn per acre. This was said to have been the first time such a high yield had been produced in the state. Mr. Hayes came to Calhoun in 1941 as Gordon County Agricultural Agent. In 1951 he became the first superintendent of the Northwest Georgia Branch Experiment Station. The station, connected with the College of Agriculture at the University of Georgia, conducts research in the field of agriculture.
