- The collection consists of correspondence from Myron G. Love as a soldier with the 38th Illinois Infantry Regiment during the Civil War, to his sister, Rachel Love of Willow Springs, Greene County, Ohio, from January 1861 - September 1862. Love describes, in detail, his regiment's marches through Missouri and Arkansas including information on the local geography; plants, flowers, and trees; plantations and farms; buildings; farming practices; types of crops; local reaction to Union troops; foraging for food, hunting, and fishing; Confederate prisoners; difficulty of moving wagons in the rain; the weather; and his health.
