- This collection consists of two documents from the Confederate States of America Congress. The first is an act of April 19, 1862, making Augusta, Georgia a port of delivery for goods imported into Charleston, South Carolina. The second is a join resolution of the Confederate House and Senate thanking the troops of the 3rd Regiment from the state of Georgia for re-enlisting in the war. The resolution was passed by the House on February 6 and by the Senate on February 11, 1864.
On February 4, 1861, representatives from 6 of the seceded states assembled in Montgomery, Alabama, to organize the Confederate States of America. At this time, the representatives drafted a provisional constitution and declared a provisional legislature. They selected Jefferson Davis to serve as their president. The provisional congress continued to meet in Montgomery until May 20, 1861, when the provisional capital moved to Richmond, Virginia. A permanent government and constitution were ratified for the Confederate States of America in 1862. The government was divided into a Senate and House of Representatives. The Congress of the CSA remained in session until the end of the Civil War.
