- This collection contains a letter written in Decatur, Georgia, on October 3, 1864, by Randall to his father. He speculates that there will be no fall campaign by General William T. Sherman and describes the arrival of Union prisoners released from Andersonville Prison in Andersonville, Georgia. Randall conveys the news of the death of his friend David S. Booream from wounds, and discusses his pay and promises to send some home.
A transcription of the letter is included in this collection.
Harrison (H.) E. Randall served as a private in Company H, 100th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. The 100th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry was organized at Camp Toledo, Ohio in 1862. In the spring of 1864, the infantry joined Union forces in Atlanta, Georgia, to participate in the Atlanta Campaign. On August 6, 1864, they engaged in an assault on the Confederate works. They were mustered out on June 20, 1865. Additional biographical information about H.E. Randall has not been determined.
