- This collection contains eleven receipts from William A. Huff's work as a grocer, for a one year period from August 1859 through August 1860. The receipts are from various grocers in the Atlanta and Marietta areas from whom William Huff purchased goods. There are two receipts from Denmead and Wright, dealers in flour, grain, and millfeed, who were located in Marietta, Georgia. The other receipts are all from Atlanta merchants and consist of High, Butler and Company, General Commission Merchants and Dealers in cotton, groceries, etc.; C. P. Cassin, grocery and produce dealer; Cox, Hill and Company., Wholesale Grocers and Commission Merchants; William M. Williams, General Commission Merchant and Dealer in Tennessee and western produce; McMillen and Fleming, Commission Merchants; Clarke and Grubb, Commission Merchants, Collecting Agents, Grocers and Dealers in all kinds of produce; L. C. and D. H. Wells, dealers in bacon, lard, flour, grain, liquors, and groceries; Carroll and High, Commission Merchants, and dealers in Tennessee and western produce, groceries, foreign and domestic liquors, tobacco, cigars, etc.; and Hubbard and Chisolm, Wholesale and Retail Dealers in family and plantation groceries, hollow-ware, pocket and table cutlery.

William A. Huff (1832-1916) was born in Bibb County, Georgia on 1 March 1832. He married Miss M. E. (Mattie) Virgin, daughter of J. A. Virgin, on 31 May 1860. The name of the other parent has not been determined. William Huff first worked as a grocer in Macon, Georgia. He was elected mayor of Macon in 1870 and served in that position for eight years. He remained heavily involved in politics afterwards, serving as a legislator and as a member of the Board of Water Commissioners, among other appointments. William Huff was also instrumental in the creation and continuation of the Macon Public Library. He died in Macon on 25 April 1916.
