- Possibly on April 11, 1856, Porter King dashes off a hasty letter from Union Point, Georgia to his wife Callie King, daughter of Joseph Henry Lumpkin. King informs his wife that he ran into Governor and Mrs. Howell Cobb, who said they were on their way to Washington and told him that Muggy was doing better. King also informs Callie that he met his father in Atlanta. They are "dusty and tired", he tells her. He asks her to kiss their son Paul for him.

My dearest wife,
I have just met Gov [Governor] Cobb & wife from Athens they report Muggy a great deal better -- they are going to Washington -- I adventure farther this morning at Atlanta -- we are both well, dusty & tired --
