Two-story red brick house featuring Italianate roof brackets and cast iron cornices projecting above the windows. The entrance portico is framed by paired Corinthian columns. The arched doorway is recessed. The central hall has a skylighted circular stairway in a side recess. Windows have cast iron railings and an iron fence surrounds the property. Begun in 1860, the house was vandalized by Federal troups, and the plans were lost before completion. The house was completed for John R. Wilder in 1866, according to restoration plans by Muller and Bruyn, who were familiar with the original plan. For more information see Linley, John. The Georgia Catalog: Historic American Buildings Survey. Athens, Ga.: University of Georgia Press, c1982, p. 332-333.
