Welcome to Savannah for Georgia Summit 2004

The theme of the seventh annual conference is "It 's a brand new day--changing times." We 're delighted to be in Savannah to share our professional experiences and to learn from each other in these rapidly changing times.

The Waving Girl,
pictured above, is a statue of Florence Martus, who lived near the entrance to the Savannah Harbor and waved to passing ships for 44 years.
Some claim the story is true; others dismiss it as legend. Either way, it's part of Savannah's fascinating history.
You can view the statue at the south end of downtown, on a bluff overlooking the Savannah River.

Georgia Summit 2004 offers enterprise application users more than 60 concurrent sessions on Banner Student and Financial Aid, PeopleSoft HRMS and Financials, and the USG Data Warehouse. Stan Gatewood, Chief Information Security Officer for the University of Georgia, will present the keynote address on IT security. Exhibitors will demonstrate their products, and we're offering Discoverer USG 123 training sess ions for the Academic Data Mart, Financials, and HRMS .
Seven hundred fifty participants from the University System of Georgia are here to network with colleagues, share information, and learn from each other's experiences. Your participation makes the conference a success, along with the efforts of the many presenters, facilitators, and moderators who have volunteered.
Welcome to our Georgia Summit 2004 sponsors, and thank you for the contributions you 're making to the conference. Sponsors are presenting sessions, participating as exhibitors, offsetting costs, and providing conference materials.
Sincerely,
7'/~vf;t;;L

KEYNOTE ADDRESS
Come See the Future Your IT and Security Future
Speaker: Chief Information Security Officer, University of Georgia
The University System of Georgia (USG) enterprise is a global one, providing users with remote access, Web accessibility, network traffic management, and Internet-enhanced administration systems. How do we protect these systems from cyber crime as technology becomes more complex and criminals become more sophisticated? No barrier is impenetrable; it is no longer enough to deploy security products or policies and then hope for the best. Our universities' enterprise systems have extensive electronic communication pathways that extend well beyond the physical bounds of the insititutions' operations. Both external threats, as well as internal vulnerabilities, must be considered. The integrity and reliable availability of USG infrastructure elements depend not only on how well they are funded and implemented but largely on how well we secure and protect them. Stanton Gatewood, an enlightening and empowering speaker who engages the audience with thoughtprovoking insights and commentary, shares his expertise and addresses the current state and future goals of IT security for the USG.
Gatewood is the Chief Information Security Officer at the University of Georgia and advisor to the universities' executives on cyberspace security. Also known as the 'Infosec Evangelist,' he is one of the leading experts in information security in the United States. As an acknowledged expert in his field, Gatewood has testified before Congress, advised committees, and acted as an expert witness in more than 50 cyberspace forensic cases. He is tri-lingual and has travelled world-wide, sharing his knowledge in Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Europe. He is also an advisor to the President's Critical Infrastructure Protection Board (Homeland Security - Higher Education). He was named one of the InfoSec Industry's Top 25 Security Professionals in 1999 and Information Security Executive of the Year finalist in 2004.
