LEARN BEST PRACTICES

WEDNESDAY
OCTOBER 3, 2012
Four Trends in Information Technology and Their Impact on Organizational Security and Privacy
Curtis A. Carver Jr., Ph.D. University System of Georgia - ITS
Curt explores four major trends in information technology that will transform everything from the perspective of a Chief Security Officer. The trends discussed during this presentation include the growing shortage of qualified IT and security personnel, cloud computing, the consumerization of IT, and big data. The intent is to foster a conversation among attendees that provides a call to action for the institutional CISOs to anticipate and respond effectively to a rapidly changing world.
Digital Crime Scene for First Responders
Steve Edwards, CFE, CPE Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI)
Bruce Holmes, MPA, B.C.U.C.R University System of Georgia Many disciplines outside of law enforcement have become partners and contributors to the digital investigation and ultimate court case. Even if the case is not being pursued in a criminal investigation, and may pertain to an E-Discovery or a civil issue, it is paramount that the evidence be collected following court protocol. Steve explores the proper way to collect digital evidence ensuring that the evidence will not be suppressed in court, while Bruce discusses working with campus police.
Enterprise Risk Management at the Board of Regents
Scott C. Woodison, BSEE, MBA, CISA, CISM CRISC University System of Georgia The University System of Georgia (USG) is in the process of rolling out an Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program to all 35 USG institutions. In order to make this a successful program using a limited amount of resources, Scott developed and piloted an ERM framework that has now been replicated across the USG. He covers how this program was implemented and identifies the Key Risks developed by the program.

Understanding "Cyber Fusion"
Walter Tong, CISSP Office of Informations Security
Beth Messick, CFCE, IACIS, ACE, EnCE Georgia Bureau of Investigation
Cyber Fusion is a name for something that causes many people much consternation. It is certainly something that needs to and can be broken down into basic parts and put back together so that the audience comes away with a better understanding. Walter and Beth attempt to reduce the complexity and take away the mystery with a `walk-thru' approach based on the State of Georgia model.
The National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC) Initiative
Mark Reardon State of Georgia
Identity fraud complaints are exploding nationally, and most experts agree we lack the ability to accurately authenticate people, especially online, and still maintain their privacy. The new National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC) initiative focuses on facilitating cooperation across the private sector to solve identity fraud nationally while avoiding the inherent issues of a national ID card. Mark discusses the initiative and five current pilot programs, and also shares a strategy for applying NSTIC in Georgia.

DEVELOP STRATEGIES
THURSDAY
OCTOBER 4, 2012

Keynote: Coordinating with Law Enforcement in Incident Response
Name Withheld FBI Atlanta Cyber Cyber criminals continuously innovate new methods and technologies to breach information technology systems and steal valuable personal and corporate data. Sadly, a perfect defense against these dynamic threats is an unrealistic and dangerous expectation. Organizations must put in place strategies to detect, mitigate, and respond to breaches when they occur. In this session, the FBI offers a perspective on how organizations can best plan for, and what to expect when, interacting with law enforcement after such an event occurs.
PeachNetSM Cloud Services
John Scoville University System of Georgia - ITS
PeachNetSM is now offering three new Cloud Services: Storage as a Service, Backup as a Service, and Virtual Data Center Services. The storage service is based on EMC Atmos and is similar to S3, Amazon's cloud-based storage service. The backup service is similar to a traditional backup system, but to our offsite datacenter and offers source-based de-duplication. The Virtual Data Center service provides virtual machines that you manage. John presents more details about each of these new services.
Threats to the Security Landscape
Phyllis A. Schneck, Ph.D. McAfee, Inc. It goes without saying that the Security Landscape has evolved into a threat climate of more sophisticated and persistent code. In this presentation, Phyllis reviews how we as Security combat this ever growing threat.
USG InfoSec & ePrivacy v2.0
Stan Gatewood University System of Georgia
Stan introduces the USG InfoSec and ePrivacy version 2.0 initiatives. Besides an updated Security and ePrivacy Strategic Plan, the new initiatives include the Information Security Program Report (ISPR) process, an ePrivacy portal, an InfoSec and ePrivacy SharePoint site, an InfoSec and ePrivacy SharePoint dashboard, and Security as a Service (SaaS), along with new InfoSec course offerings.

Security Event Management
C. Brian Rivers University of Georgia
Christopher Workman University of Georgia
Many institutions face the daunting challenge of defending critical and confidential information assets from an overwhelming onslaught of threats with limited staff and technical resources. Brian and Chris discuss a practical approach to managing risk through security operations, and cover methods that the University of Georgia's Information Security Office has found effective at dynamically prioritizing risk vectors to focus resources where they are needed most.
Encryption: One Piece of the DLP Puzzle
Walter Ray Georgia Health Sciences University
Georgia Health Sciences University's data loss prevention program has been evolving over the last several years. The latest addition to the program is an enterprise encryption solution from Credant. Walter discusses how GHSU determined it was ready for an enterprise encryption project and the lessons learned along the way to deployment.

EXPAND YOUR AWARENESS
FRIDAY
OCTOBER 5, 2012

Keynote: Securely Enabling Your Enterprise
Steve McCullar, CISSP CA Technologies To securely enable your enterprise, you need to help customers securely connect to the necessary applications they want, when they want them. You also need to provide easy but secure access to key internal resources for employees and partners. Steve discusses security solutions that can help you enable and protect your enterprise, while leveraging key technologies such as cloud, mobile, and virtualization - securely - to provide the agility that you need to respond quickly to organizational requirements.
Come to "The Point"
Jack Delinsky Software Resources & Services - USG - ITS
The overall goal of SRS is provide software to USG students, faculty, and staff at the best price. All requests for software vendors come from our institutions. Depending on the complexity or needs of the requestor, SRS creates vendor teams (institution employees) to clearly identify business requirements before negotiating a systemlevel contract. We want all employees to have knowledge on contracts and software to help make better buying decisions. Want to know more? Come the "The Point."
The Confluence of Data Security Challenges
Patrick Gray Cisco Systems
We've seen incredible waves of technological wonders over the past few years. As security professionals, those waves are engulfing us. Well-funded criminal enterprises probe and penetrate our networks, state-sponsored forays into our critical infrastructures increase, and the "hacktivist" community is resurging. Add mobility, collaboration, virtualization, BYOD, the "cloud," and hypervisor attacks, is it any wonder our IT staffs are so beleaguered? Patrick discusses where we are in the midst of this confluence and where can we turn for help.

Evolving Nature of Intrusions and Countermeasures
John Isenhour, Ph.D. Kennesaw State University
The nature of computer and network intrusions have evolved over time from generally simple methods and motives, increasing in frequency and sophistication as profitability became apparent. Recently, ideologically-motivated "hacktivism" has become a major issue, and data breaches over the last 10 years have greatly increased. John speaks to the evolving nature of such intrusions and the evident need for advanced countermeasures.
Cooperation: Cyberspace and Law Enforcement
Bobby Stanley Georgia Bureau of Investigation
Bobby walks through an unclassified cyber crime case study.
