supply a very urgent need felt, no doubt, )3y innumerable persons in the State and insistently voiced by State officials, compilation of data for this Directory for immediate issuance was undertaken. Pushed to completion with all speed, much care was exercised, nevertheless, to exclude inaccuracies.
The work is a mere directory of the Legislative, Executive and Judicial Departments of the State Government, of county officers and other matter that was in hand and not extraneous to the subject.
Of temporary usefulness the Directory will in no way impair the value of the Register and Manual, a very full and elaborate work upon which Dr. Knight, State Historian, is engaged and which it is his purpose to publish as soon as he has in hand sufficient funds.
M. B. COBB, State Librarian.
