WEST GEORGIA SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT
On July 13, 1938 the West Georgia Soil and Water Conservation District was organized and is a legal subdivision of the Georgia State Government. The District exists to serve the public and to ensure a healthy and productive environment. For this reason, the District's task is to work for the well being of all people while safeguarding land, water, and related natural resources for the benefit of future generations.

Fiscal Year 2013 Accomplishments West Georgia Soil and Water Conservation District

The District offers support to Local Issuing Authorities for their Erosion and Sedimentation programs through education programs and overviews. The District Supervisors also encouraged teams to enter the Envirothon. District support for EQIP, WHIP, CCRP, CSP, and other USDA programs continued. Supervisors continue their support for education of youth in their District by providing Soil and Water Stewardship materials to schools and education centers. The Supervisors support the local RC&D council and its programs including the no-till drill program. The supervisors encouraged and sponsored students to attend the Natural Resources Conservation Workshop held in Tifton at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. The District co-sponsored the Northwest Georgia RESA Teacher's Workshop "Project Wet" held in June. The Supervisors held their annual conservation appreciation banquet in September 2012. The Supervisors attended the GACDS Group I Meeting at Burnt Hickory Park near Dallas in August. The Supervisors Training Workshop was held in August at Unicoi State Park. The GACDS Annual Meeting was held in Atlanta on January 31 February 3, 2013. Applied for and was granted a Farm Bill Outreach Grant to promote Farm Bill participation for beginning and small farm operations.
