ROADSIDE PARKS
Roadside Parks or Rest Areas are administered and maintained by the Department of Transportation . Approximately 275 roadside parks are conveniently located along Georgia 's principal highways. Travelers are invited to use the facilities for a ptcnic lunch or just as a place to exercise or stretch away the weariness.
Camping is not allowed.

ALL ABOUT COTTAGES
A ll cottages are fully equipped for housek eeping with elec tric stove and refrigerator and with all necessary cooking and serving facilities, equipment , linens and blankets . Automatic central heat is found in all cottages , and air conditioning in all facilities except mountain pa rk cott ages. OCCUPANCY LIMITATION-No cott age may be used to accomodate more than its stated capacity. O cc upancy of a facility at any one park is limited to 14 days. RESERVATIONS-All reservations must be made through the individual park office.
Reservations for all cottages can be accepted on a 11 -month maximum advance notice. For example on July 1, 1978 a person can make a reservation for a cottage to begin anytime within the next 11 months, or , up to and including June 1, 1979 - 11 months from the date the r eservation was made. June I - August 3 1 - minimum ! -week reserva tions accept ed. Sept ember I - M ay 31 - minimum 2-night reservations accepted. Weekend: During June, July , August , reservations are not accepted until the Wednesday preceding the weekend . Other months, accepted same as above. DEPOSIT - No reservation can be considered firm until a deposit has been received and accepted by park office.
Minimum 48-hour cancellation notice required for refund. Deposit receipt must be returned for refund .
TIME HELD - No reservation will be held after 12 noon of the second day, and both reservation and deposit are then forfeited unless park office has been notified of pending late arrivaL CHECK-OUT TIME - 12 NOON. Additional ! -day rental fee charged after 12 NOON . CHECK-IN TIME - 4 p.m.- 10 p.m . PETS - No pets are allowed in cottages or cottage area. No kennels are available at parks. ELIGIBILITY - Cottages are not available to organized groups.
ALL ABOUT CAMPING Tent and Trailer Camping
C ampgrounds open 7 a.m . - close 10 p.m. Persons who arrive aft er the camping area is closed but stay on park premises overnight must pay the regular camping fee. RESERVATIONS - Reservations are not accepted for campsites. ELIGIBILITY - Boy Scout s, G irl Scou ts or o ther yout h groups are not eligible to occupy developed campsites in tent and trailer camping ar eas.

REGISTRATION Registration and payment of the camping fee are required before setting up camp. Signs will direct visitors to the registration office.
A park map may be obtained from the office. Ask for one when registering. It will save time and mileage to know where activity areas and facilities are located. AGE LIMIT - Campers under 18 years of age, whether in developed camping areas or pioneer camping areas, must be accompanied by an aduH who accepts responsibility for the camping party. TIME LIMITS - Campers should obtain a permit to set up camp no later than 8 p.m. Check -out deadline is 3 p.m. Occupancy of a sit e at any one park is limited to 14 days.
OCCUPANCY LIMITATIONS - Camping site occupancy will be limited to ONE o f the following groups o f camping rigs: A . One motor home and one automobile . B. One auto with pop-up tent trailer (or other type tent) and one auto. C. One auto with travel trailer and one auto. D . One pickup with mounted camping rig and one auto.
In addition to one of the above, one pup tent is authorized. Two boat trailers per site are authorized .
Camping is not allowed in picnic area. OVERNIGHT ABSENCE - Any tent, trailer or other personal property left on a campsite unoccupied or unattended overnight shall be subject to removal , and paid fees shall be forfeited . FACILITIES At least one comfort station is located in each developed camping area . Conveniences include flush toilets, hot showers, wash basin, mirror and electric outlets for shavers. In most parks, an automatic laundry also is available at this site.
Near each camp is a water faucet , grill, table and benches. In most parks, electricity also is provided but not always at each site. Where necessary, a raised tent pad has been constructed .
A dump station is available at many parks. Check with the park office for its location. SPECIAL NOTE - The H ealth D epart ment has advised that ca mpers can no longer be allowed to discharge waste water from sinks direc tly ont o campsit es. Until a satisfac tory permanent system ca n be designed and installed, all campers will be required to collec t waste water in a cont ainer, and when full , empt y at a spot designated by the Park St aff. PIONEER CAMPING - open only to properly supervised groups.
There is no charge for camping in pioneer camping areas, but a reservation is required . Only water and primitive-type sanitary facilities usually are available.

Boy Scouts must show the Superintendent their tour permit from the troop's Regional Council Office. The Superintendent then will direct or escort the group to the camp .

Facilities in other areas of the park are available for use at regular fees or rates. (Exce ptions: cottages, developed camping areas and group camps.)

Rec reational vehicles are not e ligible to occupy pioneer camping a reas.

supervision over the camp.

ORGANIZED PROGRAMS ON PARKS AND H ISTORIC SITES

CAMPING

Various kinds of camping are provided on state parks ranging from tent camper , " Squirrel's N est" platform camping (Unicoi), trailer, pioneer or group camping facilities .

SWIMMING

The park system offers both swimming pools and beaches with qualified lifeguards on duty.

FISHING
No fees are charged for fishing in park Jakes, rivers , and streams , but a valid Georgia fishing license is required of all residents age 16 or older . Non-residents age 16 or older must have a valid N on-resident license.
N either resident or non -resident trou t fishermen need a trout stamp if they fish only in IMPOUNDED waters on state park property. T his exemption does NOT apply to fishermen work ing streams that flow throu__gh par k lands.
Fishing boats and boats with motors are available for rent at many parks. Canoes and pedal boa ts are also available at selected sites.

MUSEUMS AND INTERPRETIVE CENTERS
Museums and interpretive centers on parks and historic sites are developed to inform, educate and interpret Georgia's natural and cultural history to the visitor.
INTERPRETIVE SERV I C ES
The Recreation and Interpretive Programming Section of the Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites Division will provide naturalist and historic interpretation programs on request. Seasonal interpretive services are provided on many parks and historic sites in the form of talks, special events, demonstrations, films, and organized activities.

PIC NICKING
No fee is charged for use of regular picnic shelters, tables and benches which are available to the public on a first -come, first -served basis.
A special group shelter, for which a reservation fee is charged, is located at many of the larger parks. They are generally screenenclosed. Extra facilities include folding steel tables and chairs, private or nearby sanitary facility and cooking grill.

Day-use picnicking is not allowed in the camping areas.

GOLF
Three regulation golf courses are provided within the system Hard Labor Creek and Little Ocmulgee (18 holes) and Victoria Bryant (9 holes).
GENERAL INFORMATION
The State Parks and Historic Sites of Georgia are administered by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites Division, 270 Washington St. , S.W., Atlanta, Georgia 30334. For Information, call Office of Information at 656-3530.
The parks and historic sites in Georgia's system encompass over 40,000 acres of great scenic variety and cover many aspects of the State's history. They are well distributed throughout the State - from the mountains to the sea - and conveniently located near principal highways.
Parks and historic sites are open on year -round basis. Most facilities are available during winter months except in freezing weather when water systems must be protected.
A full -time superintendent resides in almost every park.
Park Hours: Open 7 a.m.- Close 10 p.m., exceptS. C. Foster, Panola Mt., Providence Canyon, Sweetwater Creek .
Historic Sites: Open 9 a.m. - close 5 p.m. Tuesday - Saturday. Sunday open 2 p.m. - close 5:30 p.m. Closed Mondays, Christmas & Thanksgiving. Pets: Domestic pets are allowed in any Georgia State Park, and they must be kept on a leash at all times . Swimming areas, cottages and all o ther park buildings are closed to them. Owners are responsible for conduct of pets and must clean up after them.
All hours and dates listed herein are subject to change without notice.

TRAILS
Many parks have developed hiking and interpretive trails on them for those interested in taking either a leisurely stroll or a serious investigation of the various ecosystems which make up the site.
GUIDED TOURS
Guided fishing trips and sight-seeing tours are available at Stephen C. Foster State Park. Fees vary according to the length of trip. Detailed information is available upon request.
HORSEBACK RIDING
The Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites Division provides horseback riding facilities at Franklin D. Roosevelt , Hard Labor Creek, and Red Top Mountain.
All horses brought onto park property must have a valid Negative Coggins Test. Each person stabling a horse on park property will be required to sign a Release of Liability.
