REPORT OF THE BOARD OF TR T TEE:::s.
To His Excellency, JOHN M. LATO"T, Govemor of Georgia.
IR: In compliance with the law, the Board of Trustee of the Georgia Sch 1 for the Deaf take pI asure in placing before you the Forty- inth Report of the School for the year ending December 31, 1914.
We call your special attention to the detailed report of the varion. officer., particularly to tho e of the Trea. urer and of the Principal. You have been furnished, for filing in your
ffice, monthly statement. of the expense and other financial tran a ti ns.
You will find in the report of the Prin ipal, to which we 'all your pecial attention, a statement of attendance of the pupils and the countie. from ,,,hich they come. In hi rport you will also find reports from the As istant Principal, the Ear, Eye and Throat pecialist, th Phy i ian, as well a Heads of. Depmtments. We call your careful attention to the recommendations made by the Principal in his report and we would apprciate it if you will call att ntion to the. e various need in your coming me sage to the Legislature.
Tbe fact frequently has been called to our attention during the past year that North Georgia has no ..chool for the training and education of young women along normal ar,d industriallines; that a gr at an 1 growing need exi ts for. uch a normal and indu trial college in northwest Georgia, and that the tate's property at Cave pri ng i. ideally adapted to . ucb a pm'po. e.
The frequency an 1 urgency of these 'uggestiol1s 1 as caused your board to give the matter con 'ideratiol1 and to recommend that it be trongly brought before the Legi lature, with the idea of tmning over the present plant of the Deaf chool at Ca, pring to the pUl'pO. es abov referred t , and re-
8
me ving the great and humanitarian work f r the deaf children t a point near the geographical center of the tate.
uch a change carrie certa~n advantage. to th deaf children, a well as to the more fortunate young wom n of northwest Georgia who de ire indu trial and normal training, and are unable to ecure accommodations in the te'l,te'E' pre. ent in titutions. There being only one school for the deaf in Georgia, pupils are gathered to it from all parts of the tate. The di tance to be traveled and the remotenes. of Cave Spring from points in middle and outhern Georgia are at time a eriou handicap in dmwing hom tho e Beet.ions their mall deaf children.
The faithfulnes and efficiency of the Principal and h if' .'ubordinates we are glad to commend to you.
Very re pectfully,
W. J. GRIFFIN, Pre ident of the Board, J. W. TAYLOR, P. M. HAWES,
W~I. BRADFORD,
