Gentlemen:
As required by law (Georgia Laws, 1971, pp. 105, 106),
the State Commission on Compensation does herewith file its annual report.
The Commission has attempted to conscientiously focus
upon the compensation of State officials without regard
to particular personalities who hold these various
positions. While many factors have been considered,

including comparable salaries in other states, comparable
compensation in the private sector and the value of
retirement benefits, we have attempted to simply evaluate,
in reality, the true worth of services required. We have
considered the importance of the function of the office,
the responsibilities imposed upon the office holder, the
size of the budget and programs being administered, the
number of employees and other factors related to each
job function.
Our comparison of salaries under our purview with those in industry, commerce, the private profession, Federal government, other states, local government and in other branches of Georgia state government indicates a need for a general increase. The specifics of these increases are as follows:

As provided by law; salary is tied to the U.S. Armed Forces scale.
By law he gets the same aggregate compensation as the Lt. Governor, but
with a time lag. Opening each new biennial session, his compensation
is equalized with the amount the Lt. Governor receives.
Plus $15,000 paid as legislator.
