A Glascock County, the I20th county formed in Georgia, was created in 1857. Originally part of
Richmond County, Glascock County was named for General Thomas Glascock, a hero in the War
of 1812 and Georgia House Speaker.
The county is 145 square miles in area. It is the 4th smallest county in the state.
The county is located in CEDO Region 7 and the Central Savannah River Area Regional Development Center.

Glascock County is in the 11th U.S. Congressional District. the 24th State Senate District. and the 120th State House District.
The county has three municipalities; the largest of which is Gibson, the county seat. Gibson has a population of almost 700.
The county is primarily concerned with improving the quality of life for its residents by providing better schools, recreational facilities, and the like.
