CURRENT AGE The "aging inmate population" is a concern in correctional systems throughout the United States, including Georgia In Georgia, the increase in inmate age is a result of several factors Increased usage of probation and alterative sentencing for teenagers (first convictions) Surge of middle-aged male sex inmates due to the expanding "It's OK to tell" ethos Increase in the length of time that most inmates,

especially violent inmates, will spend in prison due to severe sentence lengths and release policies. This will thereby increase the average age of our inmates
