WHOOPING COUGH is on the Rise in Georgia Protect Your Baby

Babies Are Most At Risk
Whooping cough disease (also called pertussis) causes coughing fits so bad that it is hard to breathe.

New Moms Need Tdap Protection
Babies most often catch whooping cough from a family member. By protecting yourself from the disease, you also protect your baby.

Each year in Georgia, hundreds of babies are hospitalized for whooping cough and some die.

Ask your doctor for a Tdap shot. You can get it:

Circle Your Baby with Protection

Before you are pregnant (ideally),

Whooping cough shots safely prevent the disease. During pregnancy, or

But, your new baby is too young to get the shot. After giving birth.

To protect your baby, make sure that these people are up-to-date on their whooping cough shots:

If you have not gotten your Tdap shot yet, get one before leaving the hospital with your new baby.

Anyone who lives with your baby, or Anyone who takes care of your baby.
Protection from the disease and the shots wears off. Make sure anyone 10 years of age or older gets a booster shot, called Tdap, at least two weeks before they have contact with your baby.
Keep your baby away from sick people.

It's safe to get a Tdap shot while breastfeeding.
Treat Whooping Cough Early
Call your doctor or your baby's doctor if:
You or your baby are sick. Early signs of whooping cough are mild, and like a cold but can get worse fast; or
You or your baby are around someone with whooping cough or a bad cough.

La tos ferina provoca ataques de tos tan fuerte que causan dificultad para respirar.
Cada ao en Georgia, cientos de bebs son hospitalizados por la tos ferina y algunos mueren.
Rodea a tu beb de proteccin
Las vacunas contra la tos ferina son seguras. Pero tu beb est demasiado pequeo para obtener la vacuna.
Protege a tu beb al asegurarte que estas personas estn al da con sus vacunas contra la tos ferina:

Las nuevas mams necesitan la vacuna Tdap
Regularmente los bebs se contagian de tos ferina de algn familiar. Al protegerte de la enfermedad tambin ests protegiendo a tu beb.
Pregunta a tu doctor por la vacuna Tdap. La puedes obtener:
Antes de quedar embarazada (lo mejor) Durante tu embarazo Despus de dar a luz
Si no te has puesto la vacuna Tdap, obtenla antes de que salgas del hospital con tu recin nacido.

Cualquier persona que viva con tu beb Cualquier persona que cuide a tu beb

Es seguro vacunarte con Tdap cuando ests amamantando.

Aunque te hayas vacunado o contagiado de tos ferina, tu proteccin contra la enfermedad disminuye con el tiempo. Asegrate que cualquier persona de 10 aos de edad y mayor obtenga una dosis de refuerzo de la vacuna contra la tos ferina, Tdap, al menos dos semanas antes de tener contacto con tu beb.
Mantenga a su beb lejos de personas enfermas

Trata la tos ferina lo antes posible
Llama a tu doctor o al pediatra si:
T o tu beb estn enfermos(as). Las primeras seales de tos ferina son leves como las de un resfro pero empeoran rpido; o
T o tu beb estn alrededor de alguien con tos ferina o con una tos fuerte
