Connecting Customers and Employers
GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF LABOR

What is GoodWorks?
GoodWorks! is a service strategy intended to assist a targeted group of job seekers in securing and retaining employment. The individuals enrolled are currently receiving public assistance and are in varying stages of job readiness. GoodWorks! is the beginning of a continuum of life long learning and career development services provided through Georgia's Workforce Development System. GoodWorks! combines a holistic family focus approach while utilizing a team of both public and private partnerships.
The GoodWorks! service strategy is evolving and now includes two additional work activities: Subsidized Work Experience and Subsidized Employment. These two initiatives further the training experience by reinforcing an individual's strengths and skills while transitioning into the workforce.
GoodWorks! is a unique partnership between the Georgia Department of Labor, the Georgia Department of Human Resources and other public and private organizations to address the needs of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) customers.

Subsidized Employment
An organization hires a participant and allows them the opportunity to work full-time and perform duties consistent with other employees for up to nine months.
The participant is paid a salary and provided benefits commensurate with other employees in similar positions.
Acash subsidy is paid to the employer to help offset the cost of training each new participant.
An employer may be eligible to receive tax credits up to $8500 for each new qualifying employee retained after training.
Subsidized Work Experience
An organization provides an eligible participant with an opportunity to receive training for up to six months and up to 32 hours a week.
An employer may be eligible to receive tax credits up to $8500 for each new qualifying employee retained after training.
The participant is paid by the Department of Family and Children Services for work hours not covered by grants received via Food stamps and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF).

Benefits to Employers
The employee's monthly state cash assistance is diverted to the employer to help offset (defray) the cost of salary and training for up to nine months of subsidized employment.
Tax Credits up to $8500 per qualifying employee may be available to employers for each employee retained on a permanent, full-time basis at the end of the training period.
The employer has the opportunity to "test hire" a work experience participant for up to six months to assess their performance before providing an offer of permanent, full-time employment.
Provides businesses, both non-profit and for-profit, with workers who have a good work ethic, a commitment to succeed and a strong desire to improve their lives and their children's lives.
