Two New Courses to Open at Georgia's State Parks

Georgia's State Parks offer some of the finest public golf in the southeast on three courses at Hard Labor Creek (Morgan County), Little Ocmulgee (Wheeler County), and Victoria Bryant (Franklin County) State Parks. An

Associates, will open at Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park in Crisp County this July. This 7,076 yard course is sited among the park's pine forests and wetlands, making it both beautiful and challenging. Overnight accommodations are available in the park's ten rental cottages or in nearby Cordele. Park amenities include 13,OOO-acre Lake Blackshear, and a swimming pool and beach. The park and golf course is located only 10 miles west of 1-75 on U.S. 280.
Griffiths and Associates has also played a hand in the design of a new 9-hole course at Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park near Reidsville, which will open the spring of 1991, and in the renovation of the course at Hard Labor Creek State Park near Rutledge, which will reopen with nine holes this July
and in its entirety in the fall. The addition of the new golf
courses at Georgia Veterans and Gordonia-Alatamaha State Parks will bring to five the number of state operated public courses available in Georgia. Two especially popular features of the state park golf courses are the unlimited play, for one greens fee, on weekdays and the affordable annual membership which permits play at any of the five courses. Senior citizen rates also are available.

Innsbruck has retained
the Bavarian flavor of
nearby Helen, Georgia.
The clubhouse at Innsbruck in Georgia's Blue Ridge Mountains could have been lifted from a Tyrolean setting in Austria.
Innsbruck opened on Memorial Day, 1987.
The 1l,800-square-foot clubhouse has a dining room that continues the Austrian motif with lofted, exposedbeam ceilings and twin fireplaces. Menus include an Austrian or German specialty each day.
A snack bar opens onto the wraparound porch adjacent to the 18th green. At one corner, a section of the balcony railing can be swung open, an indoor mat with a rubber tee placed on the porch, and golfers Cl>:1 drive from the porch over a cart path, bridge and a small lake to what, in regular play, is the ninth green.
The facility has a locker room for men, a changing room for ladies, club storage and cleaning areas, and a golf cart storage area. The wellequipped pro shop is operated by PGA professional DeWitt Weaver, who holds the course record of 66.
The 6,748-yard course offers 18 holes with spectacular views of verdant mountainsides. Golf carts are almost a necessity, since only youngsters and the most physically fit even think of walking this mountainous course. In fact, Yonah Mountain, Georgia's second-highest peak, can be seen from three holes. Greens on the Innsbruck course have tricky breaks which make one-putts hard to find.
Along many cart paths are plantings of colorful flowers. And to make sure golfers remember they're playing at Innsbruck, tees are marked with alpine-type barrels patterned after the barrels St. Bernards carry around their necks in the mountain areas of Austria.
Luxury villas facing the golf course at Innsbruck are called "Igls" (pronounced eagles) after a suburb of Innsbruck, Austria. These twobedroom units come complete with lofts, making ample accommodations for three couples. The Igls are available for rental.
