Who We Serve

rehabilitation facility, Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation, is located in west centralGeorgia, approximately 70 milessouth ofAtlanta. The Vocational Rehabilitation Unit (VRU) is dedicated to providingemployment preparation services to individuals with a variety of disabilities:
learning disability
mental retardation
spinal cord injury
brain injury
neurological
psychiatric
blind/ visually impaired
orthopedic
amputation
diabetes
other developmental disabilities

How We Serve
~a primary focus on outcomes to prepare
individuals for work or school, services are individualized for each student according to their vocational goals. Services are provided to ensure the development of work competencies, interpersonal skills, work literacy, jobskillsand community skills leading to employment. A major emphasis is placed on real work experiences, to provide students opportunities to develop job skills which promote employability.
Upon admission, the service delivery teamworks with the student to develop a work preparation plan based on referral information and communication with the Rehabilitation Services (RS) regional team. VRU staff are organized into interdisciplinary teams assigned to specific RS regions. Regional assignments facilitate knowledge of community resources and vocational opportunities, reinforcing the partnership

between VRU staff, regional team members and the student's support system.
Students are housed in a dormitory setting, allowing them to learn and practice independent living skills that willenhance their job success. Students alsohave the opportunity to develop leadership skills through involvement in student council activities and various other committees. Theyare responsible for maintaining their daily schedules, dormrooms, and personal laundry, thus developing personal independence. Students mayaccess a wide range of medical and ancillary support services. Our 940-acre campus includes a large recreational complex with a basketball court, bowling alley, weight room, and swimming pool. Other leisure-time choices on campus include a golf course, tennis courts,hiking trails and chapel services.

vice delivery team and DRS regional staff enhanceeach student's success in obtaining employment.Aphilosophy of consumer choice, compassion and expertise is characteristic of the VRU programat RWSIR.
Services are easyto access, cost effective, flexibleand resultin quality outcomes that help people with disabilities to work. Flexibility allows service delivery teams to tailor services to meet student/ familyneeds and referral expectations. Referrals may be made over the phone, fax, e-mail, or direct mail. VRU teams may also accept referrals as marketing visitsare made to the regions. Rapid admission decisions based on established criteria, and a streamlined admissions process ensures timely, efficient program entry.
Following programcompletion, the student's family, friends, VRU teamand employers are invited to celebrate the student's accomplishments in a graduation ceremony. Prior to discharge, theVRU teamworks with the student and the DRS regional team to assist in job placement.
