How to Take Pictures of Your Tree
When requested to send photographic images of your tree to an arborist for review, it is important to remember the following photography "Do's" and "Don'ts." - When possible, take all pictures with the sun at your back. - Don't send very large images (over 2mb), as they are time consuming to download. - Don't send too many images generally five or six images are sufficient. We will ask for more
photographs if we need them. - Take at least one image from a distance, so we can see the tree's situation and surrounding
infrastructure elements / tree-shrub- turf competition. - Take a close-up picture of the leaves on a branch growing in the sun, to help with identification. - Take a picture of the issue (i.e. cavity, insect) in question from two different directions and
distances. - If the issue is related to the trunk, try to take the picture when the trunk is in the sun. - When taking an image of a branch torn or broken from the tree, send both a picture of the
portion torn from the tree and the tree where the branch was attached. - Try to place something in the picture for scale: ruler, set of keys, or coin (for close up issues).
