Few actors could follow up roles like Magneto in "X-Men" and Gandalf in the "Lord of the Rings " trilogy with "King Lear. " But then very few actors are like lan McKellen. Arguably the finest Shakespearean actor of his generation (Richard Ill, Macbeth, lago), he re-creates his recent stage performance of the tragic monarch in a special television adaptation.

The more researchers learn about the great apes-chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas, and orangutans the more evidence they find of creative intelligence; What, then, is the essential difference between us and them? NOVA explores that question with two episodes - "Ape Genius," and "The Last Great Ape."

From Broadway to Norway, GPB takes viewers on a musical tour with great programming featuring superstars and the best new talent.

CELTIC WOMAN : THE GREATEST JOURNEY Saturday, February 28, 7 PM This special features the essential collection of Celtic Woman's most beloved and memorable songs. The program gives new fans the chance to understand Celtic Woman's success and old fans a chance to reminisce with highlights taken from their acclaimed
PBS specials: Celtic Woman, Celtic Woman - A New Journey and Celtic Woman: A Christmas Celebration. Performances include "Danny Boy, ' "Somewhere," ' Orinoco Flow," "At the Ceili" and many more.
YANNI VOICES: LIVE FROM THE FORUM IN ACAPULCO Monday, March 2, 8 PM Listen again to Yanni's melodies, composed over an incomparable 30+ year career, and it becomes clear: The man's music was meant to be sung. Revered for his sweeping symphonic pieces, intimate keyboard airs and unforgettable musical themes, Yanni long resisted having vocalists reinterpret his music with lyrics. That is, until now. Teaming up with Grammy and Academy Award-winning producer Ric Wake, Yanni took on a mentoring role for this project, discovering and producing four young singers. who are each featured in this special-Nathan Pacheco, Ender Thomas, Leslie Mills and Chloe. Pairing tpeir vocal talents with his compositions, old and new, Yanni encouraged the four singers to write lyrics for the melodies that moved them most. It proved a winning gamble.

HIGHLAND HEARTBEAT Monday, March 2, 10 PM Singer and actress Fiona Kennedy, a member of Scotland's leading theatrical family and known in Nmth America as tl1e host of "Tartan TV," leads a group of singers brought togetl1er after a counh-ywide audition to represent a range of musical styles. Singers Jim Malcolm, Jillian Isbister, Maureen McMullan, Daisy Chute and Darren Maclean, backed by the Scottish Festival Orchestra, perform at the historic Theatre Royal in Glasgow. Stunning footage of Scotland is interspersed with the songs, which span genres and generations, from traditional Scottish compositions to pop hits. Emmy Award-winning Scottish actor Brian Cox (The Bourne Supremacy) reads the works of Scotland's national Bard, Robert Burns.

3 MO' DIVAS Friday, March 6, 9:30 PM Discover a diva (or three!) as PBS presents 3 Mo' Divas featuring Laurice Lanier, Nova Payton and Jamet Pittman bound to become household names. Directed by veteran Broadway performer, choreographer and director Marion J . Caffey, singers Lanier, Payton and Pittman, like Caffey's famous 3 Mo' Tenors, are as comfmtable with Puccini as they are with "Proud Mary." Backed by an 11-piece orchestra onstage, the classically trained women are individually showcased in thrilling solos and combined in ensembles of show-stopping power.

This friendly, Jack-Russell Terrier leaps into exciting adventures with his human owner, Joe Talbot, bringing books to life for kids and their families.
Each Wishbone episode features two parallel tales: one contemporary and one classic. The present day story chroniclesJoeTalbot as he struggles with growing up and discovering his identity; the second story features signature scenes from a literary masterpiece and stars WishboneTM!
Wishbone invites audiences to go along as he defeats the sheriff of Nottingham, journeys to the center of the earth, discovers Rome, confronts the Headless Horseman and more! With such a big imagination, Wishbone can do just about anything, from shooting an arrow to flying through the air or wherever else the
story takes him. In the classic story, Wishbone becomes a famous char-
acter, interacting and communicating with humans as their equal. Wishbone helps children make creative connections between their lives and classic works of literature, and in the process, demonstrates how much fun reading can be.

The ASO on GPB 2009 Season
The lights dim, the audience hushes, the baton cuts through the air-and the music begins. Atlanta Symphony Orchestra concerts return to Georgia's airwaves the first week of March.
Join us for 26 weeks of concerts from the orchestra's 2008-2009 season, presenting performances by the star soloists, passionate conductors and the consummate orchestral players of the ASO recorded at Atlanta's Symphony Hall in the Woodruff Arts Center.
ASO music director Robert Spano and principal guest conductor Donald Runnicles lead more than half the concerts between them. Other guest conductors this season include Nicholas McGegan, Mei-Ann Chen and Itzhak Perlman. Visiting violinists include Robert McDuffie, Joshua Bell, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg and Gil Shaham. Emanuel Ax, Peter Serkin, Andre Watts and Marcus Roberts are some of the pianists to perform. In addition, you'll hear the artistry of such soloists as percussionist Evelyn Glennie, baritone Gerald Finley and soprano Christine Brewer.
For established masterpieces on the menu, enjoy the allTchaikovsky and all-Strauss concerts, Mahler's Sixth Symphony and liberal helpings of Brahms. As for newer, American works, be sure to catch John Adams' opera "Doctor Atomic", about the first test of a nuclear weapon at Los Alamos, and the world premiere of a symphony by Christopher Theofanidis. The renowned ASO Chorus sings forth in Haydn's Creation and Mozart's Requiem.
Host Sarah Zaslaw presents the music and speaks with the artists. Join us when the ASO is on GPB, Thursday evenings at its new time of 9 PM with a repeat broadcast Sunday nights at 10.

GPB listeners of our dally news, Georgia Gaz8lta and SUstainable Georgia
know O~ando Montoya well. His thoughtful writing style, smooth delivery, and public radio craft are cornerstones to the quality reporting GPB Is known for In Georgia and throughout all of public broadcasting. Montoya, who works out of the Skldaway Island studios of Savannah GPB station 91 .1 FM WSVH, took time recently to tell GPB members a little bit about hlmseH.
I was born In O~ando, Florida, and graduated from the University
of Central Florida with a degree In broadcasting.
Savannah Is a medium-sized news market, which means ~s just small enough for a reporter to know the ground easily and quickly,
but not large enough to produce earth-shatt~ng news.
~takes abroader view of what's news. Context and background
are important, and so Is culture. Ilove reporting most about the arts. My favorite interviews are with ordinary people without
apparent news value.
I'm a licensed tour guide in Savannah. On weekends I give walking tours of the Hlstorlc District. You can find out more by going to or1andomontoya.com.
