Cover To Cover's Southern Lit Cadre Spotlight: Jesse Freeman
GPB's Cover To Cover anchors our literary coverage on radio, specializing in Southern writers and writers writing about the South. Our Southern Lit Cadre is a group of literature specialists who share the duty of finding and talking with an interesting array of writers that in recent months have included such diverse talents as Rick Bragg, Tony Earley, Celia Rivenbark, and Salman Rushdie (he teaches at Emory part-time, so that's sort of Southern).
For experience this month, we'll focus on another member of our book reviewing-interviewing Southern Lit Cadre, Jesse Freeman. Jesse Freeman grew up in Madison, Georgia, where he wrote for the hometown weekly, The Madisonian. He received a B. A. in English from Georgia State University in 2002, where he also studied Film and Video Production . Since then, Jesse has worked as a freelance journalist and video producer in the Atlanta area. He is a GPB TV correspondent for Lawmakers and Prep Sports Plus.
According to Freeman, "I have been a little surprised at the number of folks I've heard from and that have said they intend to read a certain book after hearing the author on the show. I've always been told GPB Radio had an educated audience but you really start to realize how engaged that audience is when you get involved with a show like Cover to Cover." Cover To Cover airs on GPB Radio Sunday nights at 8 PM , and can be streamed or downloaded at your convenience at www. gpb.org/covertocover.
The Issue Debuts On WGPB 97.7 FM-Rome, WNGH 98.9 FM
Chatsworth On Tuesday Nights
GPB Radio and Northwest Georgia Bureau Chief John Sepulvado launched a new half hour program called The Issue this summer. The program is heard exclusively on WGPB 97.7 FM-Rome and WNGH 98.9-Chatsworth , and can be heard ondemand by going online to www.gpb.org/wgpb. The Issue is a forum where listeners can hear the latest in local politics and culture. The Issue is unique to Northwest Georgia in that during any given week one issue of local interest is dissected , analyzed and expanded . According to Sepulvado, "One week we might be holding a local politician accountable for their campaign contributions or policy decisions, the next week we might be searching for ghosts in historic homes as a way of examining local history. The goal of the program is to speak to who we are as Northwest Georgians." The Issue airs Tuesdays at 7 PM in Northwest Georgia.

GPB Radio Features The Very Best Holiday Programs For The Season
GPB Radio will again feature your favorite public radio holiday programs from around the world and right here at home. Programming begins December 21 and includes Hanukkah Lights 2008, Paul Winter's Winter Solstice Concert, the Car Talk Christmas Redux, and many others.
Specific highlights of regional interest include:
Christmas with Morehouse and Spelman Glee Clubs - on Wednesday, 12/24, Noon to 1 PM. This is one of the great holiday traditions in America, the choirs of Atlanta's Morehouse and Spelman Colleges two of the most prestigious historically black institutions in the nation - get together to present a spine-tingling concert program. This encore presentation features the best works of the last several years. It's a joyous celebration of the schools' tradition of singing excellence, with their trademark mixture of spirituals and carols. Korva Coleman hosts.
The Augusta Opera at St. Paul's Holiday Concert- Thursday, 12/25, 8 to 10 PM From member station WACG in Augusta, The Augusta Opera at St. Paul's returns to GPB. Now in its 25th season in the spectacular acoustics of St. Paul 's Episcopal Church , this moving and powerful concert of Christmas music has become an established Augusta holiday tradition . Maestro Mark Flint conducts the Augusta Opera Chorus and Orchestra, and the Augusta Children 's Chorale.
For a complete listing of GPB Radio Holiday broadcasts, please go to www.gpb.org/ holidays. Stay tuned to GPB Radio throughout the holiday season for the very best in seasonal programs.
