Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC), dog flu is a contagious respiratory disease in dogs caused by specific Type A
influenza viruses known to infect dogs. These are called canine influenza viruses. CDC
also states that no human infections with canine influenza have ever been reported.

of high-quality, easy-to-use instructional videos on the latest software, creative and business skills. Licenses are available for check out on a first come, first served basis. To check out a license, simply email Lisa Miller from your PH email account.
Instructor-Led Microsoft Classes
Cobb & Douglas Public Health (CDPH) and the Cobb Safety Village were recently honored with the Model Practice Award at the 2015 Annual Conference of the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO).
Microsoft instructor-led classes will only be approved for groups that can
guarantee a minimum of six DPH participants. Please contact Lisa Miller for more information and to schedule a

Southwest Public Health District works with CDC to stop smoking

developing programs that demonstrate exemplary and replicable best practices in response to a critical local public health need. Cobb County Safety Village -

Interactive Health and Safety Education was one of 19 local health department
programs to receive NACCHO's prestigious Model Practice Award.
The Cobb County Safety Village is the direct result of a fast-growing youth population which needed education related to health, safety and injury prevention. It is the most comprehensive safety training environment in the Southeast U.S., where residents gain hands-on experience to protect themselves and others from accidental death, injury and destruction of property.

But for one Georgia Regents
University (GRU) Medical
College of Georgia (MCG)
student, public health sounded
like an interesting and
challenging rotation.

with the South Health District.

District. As a native of Atlanta and resident of Augusta while at GRU, Goyal was
interested in seeing a more rural area of the state so he elected to be the first MCG
student to officially intern with DPH in the Valdosta area.
William Grow, M.D., district health director, learned of the opportunity of hosting medical students while networking with fellow MCG affiliates. According to Dr. Grow, a syllabus was submitted to become an approved site for medical students to learn more about public health practice as an elective rotation.
