Government employment fell by 300 in January after experiencing job gains for three straight months. Local Government employment grew by 700 in January while State Government and Federal Government endured job losses of 800 and 200, respectively.

Over the year, employment in Georgia is up 53,100, or 1.2 percent. Education and Health Services (+23,600 jobs); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+14,800 jobs); Leisure and Hospitality (+9,200 jobs); and Construction and Financial Activities (+3,400 jobs each) have added the most jobs over the year.
Georgia's unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) held steady at 3.1 percent from December 2019 to January 2020. Over the year, the unemployment rate is down from 3.8 percent in January 2019.
