TIDELANDS ART SALE
On Jekyll Island, it's hard not to be inspired by the beautiful landscape and oceanfronts that make the island so unique. At Tidelands Nature Center, we celebrate that distinct trait with the annual "Art Inspired By Nature" sale.
The Tidelands Art Sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, February 17, inside the Morgan Center, located in the Jekyll Island Historic District.
Now in its 14th year, the vibrant art event features an eclectic array of local artists, displaying and selling their coastal-themed work. Look for your favorite artists from the Golden Isles, including Laurel Johns, Debbie Mumford, Cary and Barry Knapp, the Jekyll Potters, Lydia Thompson, Judi Marshall, Pam Mueller, among others.
Art work available at the annual sale includes paintings, metal sculptures, woodwork, hand-made soaps, animal art, plus a wide assortment of baked goods from Jekyll's many talented bakers. Stop in and find your new favorite, locallymade island treasure! After browsing the sale's shelves, be sure to check out the silent auction, featuring items donated by our artists as well as community organizations. Auction items include jewelry, pottery, books, photographs, hotel accommodations, restaurant gift certificates, dolphin tours, carriage rides, kayak tours, water park passes, and more.
Proceeds from the annual art sale are used to support the University of Georgia 4-H Tidelands Nature Center's exhibits and educational efforts. If interested in exhibiting work at the Center, or making a donation for the silent auction, contact Tidelands Coordinator Dawn Zenkert at 912.635.5032.
About Tidelands Nature Center: The University of Georgia 4-H Tidelands Nature Center offers educational programs through nature and landscape walks, kayak tours, and school group coastal ecology programs and live exhibit area. Tidelands is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $3 per person. For more information, call Tidelands at 912.635.5032 or visit tidelands4h.org.

BLACK HISTORY SERIES FEATURES MANY ACTIVITIES
This February, join the Jekyll Island Museum for a series of special programs in honor of Black History Month! Now in its second year, the annual Jekyll Island Black History Month Celebration Series brings together historians and the general public to showcase the island's rich and unique history. This year, the Jekyll Island Authority is excited to announce a full schedule of Black History Celebration events, including a lecture with the legendary Civil Rights hero, Ambassador Andrew Young. Read on to learn more about the full calendar of historical events we've lined up this February!
Change in the Wind Join esteemed special guest Ambassador Andrew Young on Jekyll Island for a screening of his inspiring documentary, "Change in the Wind." The former Atlanta Mayor, civil rights leader and United
Nations Ambassador will be on the island to present as well as discuss his highly acclaimed documentary. This groundbreaking film offers a probing look into the unlikely relationship between "Gone with the Wind" author Margret Mitchell and former
Morehouse president Dr. Benjamin Mays, set in the deeply segregated South of the 1940s. The movie screening will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, February 12 at the Jekyll Island Convention Center. Admission is free, but reservations are required.
Sweetgrass Basketmaking Workshop Learn to weave baskets from Master Basket Weaver Yvonne Grovner and continue one of the oldest art forms of African origin still practiced in America. Grovner hails from Sapelo Island, where the sweetgrass basketmaking tradition has been handed down from generation to generation. Workshop participants will make their own unique, handwoven sweetgrass basket under Grovner's expert guidance. The workshop takes place from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, February 16 at Villa Ospo in the Historic District. The $45 fee includes materials. Places
are limited and reservations are required.
Jubilee! Black soldiers with the Union Army first arrived on Jekyll Island 150 years ago, shortly after the Emancipation Proclamation. Celebrate the coming of freedom with Civil War Reenactor Joseph McGill in a living history presentation.
McGill is the founder of "I" 54th Massachusetts Reenactment Regiment, telling the story of the soldiers portrayed in the awardwinning film, "Glory." The performance will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 21 at the Jekyll Island Museum. Admission is $5 per person and reservations are required.
For reservations or information, please call 912.635.4036 or visit jekyllisland.com.

EVENTS
GREEN SCREEN MOVIE EVENT
Join Jekyll Island this February for the first-ever Jekyll Island Green Screen event! To be held February 16, this inaugural evening is being presented by Athens' EcoFocus Film Festival and will feature a screening of "Chasing Ice," an award-winning, 2012 documentary which presents a visually-stunning look into the issues of global climate change.
In this new documentary, National Geographic photographer James Balog sets out into the Arctic with revolutionary time-lapse cameras in tow, capturing the brutal and changing climate of the frozen tundra.
Balog's years of hauntingly beautiful footage were then compressed into in this 80-minute film.
To further the evening's experience, an array of experts across disciplines will be attending the film screening for deeper conversations. Stay after the screening to participate in a panel discussion with these experts who will field questions about the film and climate change.
Prior to the film screening, get the conversations flowing at our opening reception featuring a cash bar, hors d'oeuvres, and poster presentations by researchers working on Georgia's barrier islands.
The Jekyll Island Green Screen will open with the reception and research showcase from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., February 16. The film screening will begin at 6:45 p.m., with the panel discussion to follow
immediately after the screening. All events are free to the public and will be held at the Jekyll Island Convention Center, 75 North Beachview Drive.
Jekyll Island is hosting this exciting evening in partnership with the EcoFocus Film Festival, Georgia Sea Grant, and the Sapelo Island National Estuarine Research Reserve - Coastal Training Program.

ART & ANTIQUES FESTIVAL
Find new inspiration for your home dcor and take in the creativity that flows on Jekyll Island with the annual Art & Antiques Festival! Being held March 7 to 10, the annual showcase combines a collection of herald antiques with the beauty created by members of the Jekyll Island Arts Association.
Event-goers can peruse an antiques-filled showroom set up in the historic Morgan Center, then browse the wide variety of artwork from Jekyll Island artists displayed in Goodyear Cottage, the Art Association headquarters.
An antiques Preview Party will be held the Thursday prior to opening, complete with hors d'oeuvres from a talented team of Jekyll Island Club Hotel chefs. The Preview Party will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 7, and party tickets are $25.
The antiques side of the festival will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 10. Daily admission is $10. A four-day VIP pass, which includes admission every day and entrance to the preview party, is also

In addition to shopping for antique goods, guests can also learn the rules of the road from longtime collector and architect Bill Ingram. A luncheon with Ingram will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Grand Dining Room of the Club Hotel, and tickets can be purchased for $45 per person.
Alongside the antiques showcase is the Jekyll Island Art Association's annual festival. At the art spectacular, the association's 432 members display a vast collection of works, from paintings to crafts.
In addition to the arts market, hands-on demonstrations for guests will be held throughout the festival. The festival will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, at Goodyear Cottage. Admission to the art section of the festival is free.
