A PROCLAMATION

FOSTER CARE MONTH

THEREFORE:

Families are the primary source of love, identity, self-esteem and support for children, and they are the foundation of our communities; and
Thousands of Georgia children are abused or neglected by their parents or caretakers every year. Many of them must be removed from thei r homes and placed in a safe , stable , and loving environment; and
Today, the State of Georgia is providing foster care for over 12,000 children , some of whom are placed in the homes of relatives; and
Foster families across the state open their homes and extend love and security to these children. They support their birth families in meeting the goals necessary to reunify parents and children; and
Numerous individuals and public and private organizations work to support Georgia's foster care program and increase public awareness of the needs of abused and neglected children . Georgia has a need for more foster homes for children so they may have a safe, secure, and stable living environment; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim May 2016 as FOSTER CARE MONTH in Georgia and urge our citizens to recognize t he volunteers who give their time and energy to children in foster care.
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 5th day of April in the year of our Lord two thousand sixteen.
