BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK

WHEREAS:

A free, capable, and virtuous society requires an educated citizenry. Teachers spend countless hours educating, training, mentoring, and encouraging their students to succeed so that they may become contributing members of society; and

WHEREAS:

Educators are a part of this nation's backbone as they provide young people with the tools they need to maintain our nation's precious values of freedom, civility, and equality; and

WHEREAS:

Teachers devote their careers to training the future generations of doctors, lawyers, scientists, entrepreneurs, political leaders, and fellow educators. Education is our number one economic development tool and there is no more forward looking or strategic place to invest. Recognizing this sentiment, Georgia's teachers partner with parents, community leaders, administrators, and others to provide quality education to every child; and

WHEREAS:

Teacher Appreciation Week affords us an opportunity to recognize the great contributions and sacrifices given by Georgia's educators to our children, schools, and communities; now

THEREFORE:

I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim May 5-9, 2014, as TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK in Georgia.

In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 5th day of May in the year of our Lord two thousand fourteen.
