BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A PROCLAMATION GEORGIA SIGNERS OF THE DECLARATION OF
INDEPENDENCE

WHEREAS:

july 4, 1776, is a momentous date in the founding of our nation and is the date known for the signing of the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America; and

WHEREAS:

Button Gwinnett, George Walton, and Lyman Hall were three of the 56 delegated patriots, and members of the 1776 Continental Congress, who signed the Declaration of Independence, all of which were from Georgia and later served as Governors of this great State; and

WHEREAS:

These patriots knew the dangers of their decision and "with a firm reliance on the protection of divine providence, mutually pledged (their) Lives , Fortunes, and sacred Honor"; and

WHEREAS :

It is appropriate that we recognize the importance of these patriots and all patriots of the American Revolution with permanent markers placed on the Battlefield Memorial Park in Savannah, Georgia; now

THEREFORE:

I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby recogn ize these Georgians as American Patriots and encourage the citizens of this State to remember the many Georg ia patriots who foug ht in the American Revolution.

In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this g th day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand twelve.
