BIOMEDICAL/CLINICAL ENGINEERING
APPRECIATION WEEK

As medical technology advances, hospitals, treatment centers and other health care faciliti es must continue to keep pace by providing quality, well-trained personnel, capable of understanding the complexity of medical equipment operation and applications; and
Modern health care relies heavily upon sophisticated medical equipment as well as people for the best treatment available. Diagnostic instruments such as pacemakers, patient monitors, defibrillators, EKG units, diagnostic laboratory, x-ray, MRI, nuclear medicine , and other imaging systems help establish quality care. Life support medical devices such as anesthesia systems, ventilators, heart-lung, and dialysis machines provide life sustaining functions to patients; and
Proper patient diagnosis and care depends upon a team of professionals dedicated to providing thi.s quality comprehensive health care. Additionally, health care costs may be controlled by effectively selecting and repairing medical equipment by qualified biomedical / clinical engineering professionals; and
The biomedical / clinical engineering professional has the level of education, experience, competence, and dedication needed to work professionally with physicians, clinicians, administrators, and other personnel regard ing the ever-advancing technology of modern health care equipment; and
These professionals research, recommend, install, inspect, repair, calibrate, and modify medical devices, critical life support systems, computerized imaging, and other complicated medical systems, as wel l as advise and train others concern ing physiological principles and the practical , safe clinical application of complex medical devices; now
I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim May 22-28, 2011, as BIOMEDICAL/ CLINICAL ENGINEERING APPRECIATION WEEK in Georgia and urge the citizens of the state to acknowledge and give proper recognition to this profession for maintaining a high standard of quality health care to our citizens .
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 6th day of May in the year of our Lord two thousand eleven.
