Flags on State Capitol Building and Grounds Ordered Lowered to Half-Staff
On Saturday, August 13, 2016, Eastman Police Department Officer Timothy Kevin Smith was shot and killed after exiting his patrol car while responding to a call about a suspicious person; and
Officer Smith wore his badge proudly and had served with the Eastman Police Department for six years; and
It is fitting and proper to recognize the sacrifice made by Officer Smith, and to remember all our law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line each and every day as they uphold their commitment to protect the communities and people they serve.
NOW, THEREFORE, IN HONOR AND AS A MARK OF RESPECT FOR THE MEMORY OF OFFICER TlM SMITH, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED
in me as Governor of the State of Georgia, rr is hereby
That the flag of the United States and flag of the Great State of Georgia be flown at half-staff on the State Capitol building and grounds until sunset, Thursday, August 18, 2016.
