SPOTLIGHT ON: Chico's Expansion Women's fashion retailer Chico's FAS Inc. announced plans to expand its distribution center in Barrow County, Governor Sonny Perdue recently announced. The company plans to create 189 jobs and invest $15 million. This is the third major expansion for Chico's, which began operations in Barrow County in 2002.

Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) has proposed a new treatment facility in Newnan, pending certificate of need approval. CTCA plans to create 500 jobs and invest $150 million in the facility, which would serve patients from across the Southeast. The company specializes in an integrated model for cancer treatment. The state of Georgia recently won a Silver Shovel Award for excellence in economic development from Area Development magazine. This wellrespected economic development publication recognized Georgia, along with 11 other states, for its business-friendly environment, incentives and educational system. Georgia won a Gold Shovel Award in 2007.
Two businesses working with the Centers of Innovation recently received OneGeorgia grants. Aerotonomy, Inc. won a $20,000 grant for development of an "extreme" short take-off and landing unmanned aerial propulsion prototype. The company is working with Middle Georgia College and the Center of Innovation for Aerospace.
Moto America, Inc. received $10,000 to develop a fuel-efficient and/or electric commuter vehicle for mainstream consumers. The company is working with Georgia Tech and the Center of Innovation for Manufacturing.

and elected officials in Newfoundland and Labrador in July for the second annual SEUS//CP conference. Attendees will have opportunities to enhance commercial exchanges, promote twoway investment, and encourage technological linkages between provinces and states. Sessions will also focus on key industry sectors including advanced manufacturing, ocean technology and energy. Georgia companies can also participate in a SEUS//CP business matchmaking program to be held in Toronto, Canada, on July 23 & 24 at no additional cost. Waynesboro-based Byne Blueberry Farms was recently presented with the 2009 Master Farmer
Award by Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
The family-owned farms are certified organic and sell an increasingly diverse product line that includes blueberry jam, preserves, jelly, butter, salsa and cider. Byne Blueberry Farms sells its products via retailers Fresh Market and Earth Fare.

Two of GDEcD's Centers of Innovation (COI) were recognized with the 2009 Innovator Award by the Southern Growth Policies Board. The COIs for Agribusiness and Energy were lauded for their efforts in the bioenergy sector. GDEcD, along with marketing solutions agency Engauge, has redesigned Georgia.org in order to make it faster, friendly and easier for companies to do business with Georgia. Topics covered include the benefits of locating in the state, industryspecific information and community development. GDEcD is seeking Georgia export companies and communities interested in joining its delegation to the Dubai Airshow 2009 November 15 19 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). To help Georgia companies capitalize on the event, GDEcD has created affordable event packages targeting those who would not otherwise be able to travel to the Dubai Airshow.
