SPOTLIGHT ON: Verizon Wireless Governor Perdue announced recently that Verizon Wireless will hire 600 customer service employees in Alpharetta. The telecommunications giant plans to invest $27 million in its Sanctuary Park facility.

Savannah, Georgia will be home to Miley Cyrus's
new movie project, "The Last Song," Governor
Perdue announced. The major motion picture is based on a Nicholas Sparks screenplay that will also be turned into a book. Production of the Disney movie is expected to start in June and last through mid-August. Governor Perdue was named BIO Governor of the
Year for his leadership in supporting the
bioscience industry. The Biotechnology Industry Organization recognized Perdue in a news conference held in advance of the 2009 BIO International Convention, which takes place in Atlanta May 18-21.

2009 Exporter of the Year for Georgia and Exporter of the Year for the Southeast U.S. Aventure Aviation, located in Peachtree City, is a client of GDEcD's international trade team. Athens-based Fire & Flavor, which makes products for at-home cooks, is growing in spite of the down economy. The company is currently hiring for four
positions and attributes its success to the popularity of cooking at home. Their products, which include grill accessories and seasonings, are now carried at retailers across the U.S. including Whole Foods, Williams Sonoma and Sam's Club. The 2009 BIO International Convention is headed to Georgia this month. The world's largest biotechnology gathering, BIO is expected to draw up to 20,000 industry professionals to Atlanta May 18 21. GDEcD is a Double Helix sponsor of the convention and is working tirelessly to share Georgia's bioscience strengths with the industry. The Georgia Center of Innovation for Logistics released the first-ever comprehensive report on Georgia's logistics industry at the 2009 Logistics Summit.
