SPOTLIGHT ON: TOURISM GRANT PROGRAMS GDEcD, through the Georgia Tourism Foundation, has awarded $1 million in co-op marketing grants to 86 communities, convention & visitor bureaus, regional travel associations and other non-profit tourism entities across the state. Additionally, GDEcD awarded $90,000 in tourism product development grants to 11 tourism entities across the state.
InnoWare Plastics plans to create 45 jobs and invest $9.7 million in its Upson County facility. Blue Bird plans to expand in Peach County. The bus manufacturer is purchasing the old Dan River building to use as a fabrication facility. Sterling Wharton was named program director for the Georgia Centers of Innovation. The six centers of innovation are now housed under GDEcD.

Forbes magazine ranked Georgia as the third best state for alternative energy from biomass. GDEcD's Regional Small Business and Innovation Team recently won a Governor's Commendation for Excellence in Customer Service. The quarterly event recognizes state employees who go above and beyond their basic responsibilities to provide extraordinary service to Georgia's citizens. The Americas Competitiveness Forum will be held in Atlanta from August 17 19. The second annual conference will bring together representatives from the Western Hemisphere's public and private sectors for a thought-provoking discussion on improving economic competitiveness in the Americas.
