BROILERS PLACED IN GEORGIA UP SLIGHLTY BROILER EGGS SET UP 3 PERCENT

Placement ofbroiler chicks in Georgia during the week ending March 7 was 23,994,000--4 percent more than the previous week and slightly more than the comparable week last year, according to the Georgia Agricultural Statistics Service.

An estimated 30, 150,000 broiler type eggs were set by Georgia hatcheries--1 percent more than the previous week and 3 percent more than the comparable week a year earlier.

Placement of broiler chicks in the 15 reporting States totaled 140,072,000--2 percent more than the previous week and 1 percent more than the comparable week last year. Broiler type hatching eggs set were 175,445,000--slightly less than the previous week but 1 percent more than the corresponding week a year earlier. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 82 percent. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.
