I love daylilies but wished they bloomed for a longer period. How can I extend daylily season?
June is the main daylily month in Georgia. To extend the daylily blooming season, consider adding early, late and reblooming varieties to your garden. A few early varieties are `Gold Dust,' `Orangeman' and `Early Flora.' A few later varieties are `Challenger,' `August Flame' and `Autumn Minaret.' Two popular reblooming varieties are `Stella de Oro' and `Black-eyed Stella.' Re-blooming varieties will bloom over several months. Visit the website of the American Hemerocallis (daylily) Society (www.daylilies.org) for more information and to find local daylily societies and some sources for buying daylilies. Also, check for sources in the Flowers for Sale section of the Market Bulletin. With proper selections, you can have daylilies in bloom from April to late summer or fall.

Ga. Counties Receive Disaster Designation

The nomination period for Farm Service Agency county committees opened June 15 and continues through Aug. 1. To be eligible to serve on a county committee, a person must participate or cooperate in a program administered by FSA, be eligible to vote in a county committee election and reside in the local administrative area in which the person is a candidate.
Farmers and ranchers may nominate themselves or others, and organizations representing minorities and women also may nominate candidates. To become a candidate, an eligible individual must sign the nomination form, FSA-669A. For more information visit http://www.fsa. usda.gov/elections. FSA will mail ballots beginning Nov. 4; ballots are due back to the local county office by Dec. 5. Newly elected committee members and alternates take office Jan. 2, 2012.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack has announced that 22 Georgia counties have been designated primary natural disaster areas due to drought that occurred from December 15, 2010, and continuing. In addition, 26 contiguous counties were included in the disaster designation.
To receive a disaster designation, a county must have incurred a loss of 30 percent or more in dollar value for all crops, or of a single crop or group of crops, such as all feed crops or all fruit crops.
A Secretarial Disaster Designation makes farm operators in both primary and contiguous counties eligible to be considered for assistance from the Farm Service Agency (FSA), provided eligibility requirements are met. This assistance includes FSA emergency loans and the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payments (SURE) Program. Farmers in

Fall Edition Set for September 7

The Fall Farmland Edition of the Market Bulletin will be published September 7. Deadline for this issue is August 17. Please adhere to the following guidelines when submitting farmland advertisements.
* Only farmland may be advertised. Land tracts must be at least five acres in size and located in Georgia.
* Indicate acreage and county where your property is located.
* All property must be for sale by owner; no real estate brokers or agents are allowed to advertise; property under contract with a real estate agent or broker is not eligible for advertising. Consumers

are encouraged to call the Market Bulletin office toll-free at 1-800-282-5852 to report ads not in compliance with this requirement.
* Descriptive terms should be limited to those characterizing farm property or agricultural structures, such as barns, stables, etc. Descriptive terms, such as square footage of homes, number of bedrooms, bathrooms, etc., will not be included for non-agricultural structures.
* Only one ad per household per issue is permitted.
* For best results, include the price of the property in the notice.

eligible counties have eight months from the date of a Secretarial Disaster Declaration to apply for emergency loan assistance. FSA will consider each emergency loan application on its own merits, taking into account the extent of production losses, security available, and repayment ability. SURE Program applications for 2011 crop losses will be accepted in 2012, when the 2011 farm revenue data required by statute becomes available.
Primary counties included in the designation are: Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Ben Hill, Brantley, Brooks, Bryan, Chatham, Coffee, Colquitt, Cook, Dodge, Effingham, Irwin, Jeff Davis, Lanier, Lowndes, Pierce, Telfair, Thomas, Wayne and Wheeler. Contiguous counties are: Berrien, Bleckley, Bulloch, Camden, Charlton, Clinch, Echols, Evans, Glynn, Grady, Laurens, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, Mitchell, Montgomery, Pulaski, Screven, Tattnall, Tift, Toombs, Treutlen, Turner, Ware, Wilcox, and Worth.
These counties were affected by drought very early in the season and therefore were the first to be assessed for agricultural damage and qualify for a Secretarial Designation. Due to the ongoing drought, additional counties likely will be designated as disaster areas later this summer. Loss assessment reports now are being prepared in other Georgia counties and are expected to be completed for review by the State Emergency Board later in July.
The process for a county to receive a Secretarial Disaster Designation is as follows: the state FSA Director instructs county FSA offices to conduct assessments of agricultural damage in their counties.

Equine For Sale
If you have questions regarding ads in this category, call Andrea Stephens at 404-6519081 or 404-651-9082.
All equine advertised in the Market Bulletin must have had a negative Coggins test within past 12 months. Negative reports are valid for 12 months from the sample date. A copy of this test report must accompany the ad each time it is submitted or the notice will be returned to the advertiser. For this reason, generalized ads (i.e., many horses, varieties to choose from, others, etc.) cannot be accepted. Buyers are urged to request verification of a negative Coggins test before purchasing any equine. Any falsification of Coggins tests can result in fines and/or suspension of advertising privileges in the Market Bulletin. This regulation also applies to equine advertised in the "At Stud" and "Boarding" categories of the quarterly equine editions.

Any person engaged in buying live poultry of any kind for resale, or in selling live poultry of any kind bought for the purpose of resale, must be licensed by the Georgia Department of Agriculture. Possessing such a license does not by itself disqualify an individual from advertising poultry in the Market Bulletin; however, advertisers should note that all livestock (which includes poultry), must have been in possession of the advertiser for a minimum of 90 days or, in the case of chicks, ducklings, etc., must have been raised by the advertiser before offering them for sale in the Market Bulletin. Mallard ducks must be at least three generations from the wild before they can be advertised in the Market Bulletin. Advertisers must include this information in notices submitted for publication.

AG SEED FOR SALE
If you have questions regarding this category, call Shavonne Smith at 404-6519081 or 404-651-9082.
Advertisers of agricultural seed must submit a current state laboratory report (not more than 9 months old) for purity, noxious weeds and germination for each seed lot advertised. A seed lot must be uniform and not exceed 400 50-lb. bags. Laboratory reports will be returned upon request. Any ads for agricultural seed submitted for publication without this documentation will not be published. Licensed seed dealers cannot advertise seed in the Market Bulletin. Certain varieties of seed are protected from propagation unless they are grown as a class of certified seed. For example, wheat seed such as Florida 304, Coker 9152, Coker 9835 and soybean seed, such as Prichard and Benning, may not be propagated for sale unless the seed has been grown as a class of certified seed. Propagation of such seed is a violation of the Plant variety Protection Act and the Federal Seed Act. If you have questions regarding certified seed, call the Market Bulletin office or the Georgia Department of Agriculture Seed Division at (404) 656-5584.
