fifty percent of the

the GPCA celebrated its

with the services they provide designed to protect you from insects, rodents, wildlife pests, and the damage they cause to homes and businesses, not to mention the transmittable diseases they spread.
The pest control industry in Georgia is regulated by the Department of Agriculture. Companies must have liability insurance, a certified operator to oversee the day to day operations and their technicians are required to pass a registration exam administered by the Department of Agriculture. Both the certified operator and the registered technician must obtain continuing education credit hours during a specified time period to continue working in the industry.
Although education and training is at the core of GPCA membership, the GPCA provides many resources to member companies and their employees enabling them to offer quality service by trained professionals and to assist them with industry compliance.
Those resources include an endorsed insurance program, on-going CEU training programs across the state of Georgia, representation on legislative issues that may directly affect their businesses, study materials for required tests, scholarships, a leadership program that is second to none, and an electronic newsletter that keeps them

Ga. Company Produces Peanut Product Used
for the June 29 issue
To Feed Children Suffering from Malnutrition
Mail to: Published by the Ga. Department of Agriculture Gary Black, Commissioner For in-home delivery Wed., June 1, 2011
is noon, June 15
The American Blanching Company, based in Fitzgerald, Ga., has joined with the nonprofit organization Mother Administered Nutritive Aid (MANA) in their operations at a new production facility in Ben Hill County.
The new facility will be producing a fortified peanut product, Ready to Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), which is coupled with high-fat powdered milk to create a nutrient-rich product. RUTF has already been used successfully by UNICEF to help feed impoverished children in Africa.
A ribbon cutting for the new facility took place May 4 with more than 100 people in attendance from around the country, including Agriculture Commissioner Gary W. Black.
"I am excited to see new ways for Georgia peanuts to be used in helping improve the health of children around the world. Georgia is the number one producer of peanuts in the nation and our peanut farmers produce nearly half the country's peanut crop each year," Black said. "We look forward to following the progress and success of this new partnership, and are eager to hear more about RUTF as it begins
production here in Georgia." Additionally, the new production
facility will bring 65 jobs to the state. MANA and American Blanching Company have jointly invested in the project and are considering future expansions of the facility, which would
take on another new food product designated for disaster relief.
RUTF already has been provided to Rwanda and is endorsed by UNICEF as well as the World Health Organization, World Food Program and the United

Pest Control
(Continued from Page 1)
current on what's going on around the state and the national scene.
Civic minded GPCA members can be found in every community raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. To date some $700,000 has been collected. GPCA has conducted numerous food drives and donated the goods to the Salvation Army to help the hardest hit areas in the state by recent disasters.
Like you, many in the pest control industry can be found volunteering at a school, Church, or assisted living facility, coaching little league, or speaking to civic organizations like Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions, Ruritan, Optimist, and Chamber of Commerce.
The next time you need to employ the services of a Georgia pest control company remember you are employing a neighbor and be sure to ask if their company is a member of the Georgia Pest Control Association.
To learn more about Georgia Pest Control Association and the pest control industry in Georgia, call the GPCA at 770-417-1881 or visit us on the web at www.gpca.org

Equine For Sale
If you have questions regarding ads in this category, call Andrea Stephens at 404-6519081 or 404-651-9082.
All equine advertised in the Market Bulletin must have had a negative Coggins test within past 12 months. Negative reports are valid for 12 months from the sample date. A copy of this test report must accompany the ad each time it is submitted or the notice will be returned to the advertiser. For this reason, generalized ads (i.e., many horses, varieties to choose from, others, etc.) cannot be accepted. Buyers are urged to request verification of a negative Coggins test before purchasing any equine. Any falsification of Coggins tests can result in fines and/or suspension of advertising privileges in the Market Bulletin. This regulation also applies to equine advertised in the "At Stud" and "Boarding" categories of the quarterly equine editions.

Any person engaged in buying live poultry of any kind for resale, or in selling live poultry of any kind bought for the purpose of resale, must be licensed by the Georgia Department of Agriculture. Possessing such a license does not by itself disqualify an individual from advertising poultry in the Market Bulletin; however, advertisers should note that all livestock (which includes poultry), must have been in possession of the advertiser for a minimum of 90 days or, in the case of chicks, ducklings, etc., must have been raised by the advertiser before offering them for sale in the Market Bulletin. Mallard ducks must be at least three generations from the wild before they can be advertised in the Market Bulletin. Advertisers must include this information in notices submitted for publication.

AG SEED FOR SALE
If you have questions regarding this category, call Shavonne Smith at 404-6519081 or 404-651-9082.
Advertisers of agricultural seed must submit a current state laboratory report (not more than 9 months old) for purity, noxious weeds and germination for each seed lot advertised. A seed lot must be uniform and not exceed 400 50-lb. bags. Laboratory reports will be returned upon request. Any ads for agricultural seed submitted for publication without this documentation will not be published. Licensed seed dealers cannot advertise seed in the Market Bulletin. Certain varieties of seed are protected from propagation unless they are grown as a class of certified seed. For example, wheat seed such as Florida 304, Coker 9152, Coker 9835 and soybean seed, such as Prichard and Benning, may not be propagated for sale unless the seed has been grown as a class of certified seed. Propagation of such seed is a violation of the Plant variety Protection Act and the Federal Seed Act. If you have questions regarding certified seed, call the Market Bulletin office or the Georgia Department of Agriculture Seed Division at (404) 656-5584.
