Grandpa's^ Garden t
You can help "green" your pep pers by giving them a boost of mag nesium with epsom salts. Dilute one tablespoon of epsom salts in a quart of water. Spray the solution on the leaves and blossoms using a clean household spray bottle every few weeks beginning when the plants blossom. This solution also helps in the production of fruit.
Protect young cabbage and toma to plants from cutworm damage by cutting both ends out of a tin can and imbedding it about two inches deep around the stem of each plant.
To discourage aphids from your plants, place aluminum foil underne ath the plants. The reflection of the light rays causes aphids to fly away or fall off.
Ladybugs are beneficial insects to have in your garden, especially if you do have a problem with aphids. Ladybugs will feed on most any in sect that is not too big for it, but aphids are their favorites. In its life time, one ladybug eats between 500 and 1000 aphids.

GAEHE Members

"green thumb". Most of us do not have natural skills in each phase, so this is why we teach homemaking skills to both men and women, boys and girls.
There seems to be daily changes in our economy, social structure and communities which means we must have help at times to stay up with the changing lifestyles.
Drop by the County Extension Of fice for a visit. We can provide you with information through pub lications, newsletters, radio and television programs, news articles, classes, workshops and special in terest demonstrations.
Our objectives as association members are to improve our professional standards, enjoy fellowship and exchange ideas and information. We recognize leader ship among the Extension Home Eco nomist who render outstanding ser vice to the people of Georgia. These Home Economists will be recognized during the state meeting to be held in Athens September 10 and 11,1981.
We are affiliated with the National Association of Extension Home Economists. Approximately twenty-five members will attend the annual session to be held in Las Vegas, Nev., October 10-16, 1981. Four GAEHE members will receive national citations for outstanding service rendered in her county. The Georgia Association will host the National Annual Session in Atlanta, October 1983.
All of Georgia's Extension Home Economists conduct educational programs of interest to today's citizens and everyone is welcome. We hope to hear from you.
SNACK TIME
Snacks don't have to be high in calories. Extension Service food and nutrition specialists suggest these low-calorie, healthy alternatives; a glass of milk, a crunchy raw vegetable, a thin slice of cheese, or a piece of fruit. If that's not enough, reach for a cup of yogurt -- only 80 calories of good nutrition.
George Deadwyler, right, the 1981-82 president of the Georgia Poultry Federation receives a gavel from immediate past president Doug Cagle.
Deadwyler and his family live on Galilee Church Road in Jackson County. He is a former master 4H'er and graduate of Maysville High School and the University of Georgia.

of dust or flour. Young pigs prefer the product over ground wheat, a ground corn or mixture of 1/2 ground wheat and 1/2 ground corn.
Dollarwise the energy and protein level for wheat as compared to corn is favorable.
wheat
corn
one bushel

protein level
10% 8.2%
The exchange is obvious not only
in protein value but with the large
crop anticipated wheat prices
should be very attractive.
Although the 1980 drought and '81
bumper wheat crop have created
this unique situation, farmers should
not consider this a one time exper
iment. Small grains and grain
sorghum can make a significant diff
erence in livestock production.
Wheat is an excellent crop for
double cropping when coupled with
soybeans or sorghum, as harvest can
be accomplished before drought con
ditions affect later crops.
Additional information on using
small grains as livestock feed is
available from your local county
agent's office.
