Fight Inflation
Is anybody really trying to hold food prices in check? What about fuel? Is anybody gaining ground on the energy crunch?
Yes. The Seed industry, by research and practice, has made sign-
lificant reductions I in the cost of agriculture producItion and increasl ed efficiency in ? agricultural fuel.
Daily, seedjjsmen are making I contributions to solve some of our problems. Research has developed higher yielding crops that consume less energy to produce. The seed industry is working on new varieties to create new and oetter oil producing crops that will reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.

Plants, such as cotton, are being improved to lessen our dependence on synthetics made from fossil fuels.

Is nutrition information required on food products? B.T.
Decatur Your question is quite timely as March is Nutrition Month. Unless a food makes specific nutrition or health claims, it is not required that such information be included on the label. However, many manufacturers are provid-
ing these facts voluntarily.

I heard an advertisement on the radio saying that fresh vegetables were cholesterol free. It mentioned celery and carrots. I didn't think any vegetables had cholesterol.

You are right. Cholesterol is present only in meat and poultry products. Some enterprising business person probably caught some shoppers unaware.

Georgia to have a long growing season. Some parts of the state have an eight to nine month growing season.
According to a poll by the Gallup organization on the results of a 1979 National Gardening Survey, 33 million American households will grow some of their own food in home or community gardens in 1980. This is an increase by two million over 1979 figures.
We will see 42% of America's 78 million households growing some of their own food this year. The total retail value of produce from U.S. gardens in 1979 was 13 billion dollars! The average cost per garden was $19.00 and the average yield was $386.
The home garden is a way that the individual can fight inflation and energy problems.

I was in the grocery store last week and started to buy the cream cheese that was on sale. Then I noticed it was out of date and there were several boxes of it.

The Hereford hog got its name because of its similarity in color pattern to the cattle breed of the same name. To be registered, a Hereford hog must have a white face, not less than two-thirds red exclusive of face and ears and at least two white feet, according to the National Hereford Hog Record Association.
This breed was developed in 1902 by R. U. Webber of La Plata Missouri. Both Duroc and Poland China bloodlines were used to produce the Hereford bloodline.
According to Leonard Fleming, Hartwell, who raises Hereford hogs, Georgia ranked third in the nation registering Herefords in 1979.
Some of the more desirable traits of Herefords are their quiet dispositions, early maturity and ability to cross weU with other breeds.
