tstmos-

Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head; The stars in the sky looked down where He lay, The little Lord Jesus, Asleep on the hay.
The cattle are lowing, the poor Baby wakes, But little Lord Jesus no crying He makes, I love Thee, Lord Jesus! Look down from the sky, And stay by my cradle, Till morning is nigh.

Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee

to stay, Close by me forever, and /

love me, I pray; Bless all the

<\

dear children in Thy tender care,

And take us to heaven, To live

with Thee there.

9 o Tfce douabtaft Ttee?

The custom of decorating an evergreen tree at Christmastime originated in Germany. With lights and tinsel and crowned with a star or angel, the tree was symbolic of the nativity of Christ.
According to historians, though, the Christmas tree was the equivalent of the may pole and is a survivor of pagan tree worship and/or early Christian rites to celebrate the winter solstice, the beginning of winter.
Before 608 AD the tree reportedly

was not connected with Christian symbolism. After this date, however, the cross or star crowned the evergreen tree to symbolize the Star of Bethlehem.
Although the custom of decorating the Christmas tree originated in middle-Europe, its popularity spread to other countries. In England, its greatest promoter was Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria and German by birth.
The traditional German Christmas

song, "0 Tannenbaum" lauds the custom of decorating the evergreen tree and is one of the oldest Christmas carols known.
"O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree, Your branches green delight us...They're green when summer days are bright; They're green when winter snow is white. 0 Christmas Tree, 0 Christmas Tree, You give us so much pleasure."
