the beginning of recorded history, it was not until 1941 that a corporation was established for the registration of Palominos and the recording of show and performance achievements.
Palomino Horse Breeders of America is an organization dedicated to the advancement of the Palomino and to the service of persons devoted to this aim.
Each horse registered by PHBA must conform to color, breeding and physical characteristics designated by the association's rules. Two types of registration are maintained by PHBA, including a special breed registry for horses with either a sire or dam registered in PHBA and the other registered in PHBA, Thoroughbred, Quarter Horse, American Saddle Horse or the Arabian association.
Working closely with PHBA, the Georgia Palomino Exhibitors Association, a state affiliate, sponsors open and approved Palomino horse shows within the state. Many of the Nation's finest Palominos are bred, owned and shown by Georgians, and we're proud of our membership and their horses.
We welcome new members and invite any one interested to attend our monthly meetings and meet our yellow horse breeders and exhibitors.

GEORGIA'S TOP TEN Tobacco - #6

Georgia produces two varieties of tobacco - bright leaf or fluecured used primarily in the manufacture of cigarettes and shade tobacco used in wrappers for cigars. Flue-cured production is concentrated in south central and southeast Georgia, the most being grown in 47 counties. Average yield is 2,235 pounds per acre with
about 72,000 acres in Georgia devoted to the crop. Georgia is the third largest producer of leaf in the nation.

College educations for 17 Georgia young people got a $4,500 boost at the 43rd Annual State 4-H Council meeting held recently at Rock Eagle 4-H Center, Eatonton.

'76 Peach Crop
Above Last Year
The 1976 Georgia peach crop is forecast at 210.0 million pounds (4,375,000 48 pound equivalents) as of June 1, according to the Georgia -Crop Reporting Service. This estimate is 10 million pounds above last month's forecast and, if realized, would be 121 percent above last year's short crop of 95 million pounds.
Prune Shrubbery
For Best Results
Want your yard to be the envy of the neighborhood? Proper pruning can make your outdoor shrubbery look like it's had professional care.
Not only does pruning stimulate and rejuvenate plants, it also increases the development of new limb growth that creates a full, nicely-shaped look.
Summer pruning of small plants is done by either cutting or pinching off the ends of stems. This stops the stem from growing and encourages new growth just below the cut. The new growth branches out, not up.
Plants should be pruned every eight weeks starting in the spring and continuing through August. Pruning in September and October is not advised as it stimulates new growth that could

Japanese Beetle
Growth Increased
By Wet Weather
Japanese beetles have emerged. Heavy infestations can be expected in areas extending from Greater Atlanta (including Fulton and Clayton counties) northeastward.
Beetle adults first appear in early summer. They are metallic green with coppery-brown wings. For ten months they remain in the ground as whitish grubs feeding on roots and stems of plants. As adults they attack the plant itself.
Wet summers encourage beetle growth and activity. Grubs and eggs multiply more rapidly producing more adults the next year. On the other hand, dry weather reduces the number of beetles.
Controlling the Japanese beetle requires time and money. Continuous applications of Sevin at one week intervals are necessary to be effective. Start spraying as soon as the first beetle is ob-

Milky spore disease is an effective biological weapon against the eggs and grubs. It will not, however, kill the adult beetle.
Natural enemies of the beetle include chickens, ducks, turkeys, and guineas as well as a few wild birds. Toads, moles and skunks also eat a good many adult beetles. Although these natural predators will reduce the beetle population within a Limited area, their efforts are too sporadic and too restricted to have much effect on the overall population.

my arm and he told me I had "Thunderfoot". He said it was kin to poison oak or ivy but he couldn't tell me anymore about it. Do you have any information on "Thunderfoot"?
Name Withheld by request Mansfield, Georgia (Editor's note: "Thunderfoot", more often called "Thunderwood" is poison sumac. It is a coarse woody shrub or
small tree and never in the vinelike form of its poison ivy relatives. It is usually associated with swamps and bogs and is 5 to 25 feet tall. Isolated plants are occasionally found outside swampy regions. In dry soil they are seldom more than a few feet tall.
Leaves of thunderwood are composed of 7 to 13 leaflets, elongated oval, no serrations, 3 to 4 inches long and smooth velvetlike in texture. In early spring their color is bright orange; later dark green and glossy with scarlet midribs.)

POSIES PLANKED CHICKEN

2 broiler-fryer chickens, halved 1 teaspoon minced onion

2 teaspoons salt

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1/2 teaspoon pepper

1 teaspoon Ac'cent flavor

6 tablespoons Mazola corn oil,

enhancer

divided

1 quart seasoned mashed

1 teaspoon finely chopped green potatoes

pepper

1 pint sauteed mushrooms

1 teaspoon minced parsley

Sprinkle chickens with salt and pepper. Mix together 4

tablespoons of the corn oil, green pepper, parsley,

onion, lemon juice and flavor enhancer. Place chickens

in large shallow baking pan. Brush on both sides with

mixture of oil and seasonings. Arrange in single layer

skin side up. Bake in 400 degree oven, uncovered, about

30 minutes or until almost done. Oil 4 planks with

remaining 2 tablespoons corn oil. Garnish with a border

of mashed potatoes forced through pastry tube. Place

chicken in center of the plank, arrange around it sauteed

mushrooms. Spread over the chicken the remaining mix-

ture of oil and seasoning. Bake in 500 degree oven to

brown potatoes and to cook chicken until fork can be in-

serted with ease. Serve on planks. Garnish with fresh

vegetables. Makes 8 servings.

The Austrian yellow rose was first recorded before the time of Mohammed and is indigenous to areas of Iran, Turkey and western Asia.
The rose was brought to Spain by 13th century Moors during the Moorish occupation of that country. At the time, the only rose even slightly yellow known to Europeans was the Rosa spinosissima or scotch rose.
From Spain the Austrian rose slowly made its way to Holland, Italy and Austria by 1560. Up to this time the plant had been known simply as the "yellow

Austrian, Yellow Brier) is an impressive rose with deep yellow single blooms approximately three inches across. The rose itself is 5 to 10 feet high, bears stems with 5 to 9 leaflets and leaves that are brownish green. Unlike other roses it does not have a sweet smell. In fact it is described as being unpleasant.
On its plus side, the Austrian yellow rose prefers poor soil and resents pruning. But it is difficult to establish and is very susceptible to blackspot disease.
Among its more well-known varieties are the Austrian copper rose (R. foetida variety bicolor) with brilliant copper-red petals above and buff colored on underside with ferny foliage; the R. foetida Persiana with double yellow blooms; and the popular Harrison's Yellow.

Remedies For Canning Problems

Fruits and Vegetables

Cause 1. Lowering pressure in canner suddenly after processing period.
2. Fluctuating pressure during processing in pressure canner
3. Failure to work out air bubbles from jars before processing
4. Improper seal for the type closure used.
5. Jars not covered with water in water-bath canner.
1. Chips or cracks in jars.
2. Failure to follow recommended directions for closures used.
3. Particles left on mouth of jar.
4. Using old closures that should be discarded.

Prevention 1. Do not force pressure down by placing canner in a draft, opening the petcock too soon, etc. Allow pressure to drop to zero naturally; wait 2 minutes before opening.
2. Maintain a constant temperature throughout processing time.
3. Remove by running a spatula or knife between food and jar.
4. Follow the manufacturer's directions for closure used.
5. Jars should be covered with 1 to 2 inches of water in canner throughout processing period. ____________
1. Examine carefully before using by rubbing finger around the mouth of the jar.
2. Follow manufacturer's directions.
3. A clean, damp, cloth should be used to remove any seeds, seasonings, etc. that prevent a perfect seal.

5. Lifting jars by tops or inverting while hot.
