The best way to get anything started is to get with it and follow through. A lot of people in Georgia have talked about it, but until now no one has done anything about it. You've guessed it, thanks to the tremendous effort put forth by a few dedicated people we organized a Georgia Racking Horse Association.
The Racking Horse has come a long way in just a little over three years. It is our sincere hope that through this Association we can reach more people: that we can promote more interest in exhibiting, breeding, sale or just the simple pleasure of owning and riding a Registered Racking Horse.

Registered Racking Horse a true, honest, show horse. This Georgia Racking Horse Association will be in full conjunction with The Racking Horse Breeders' Association of America. We will abide by all their rules and regulations. We'll welcome all the new members we can to The Racking Horse Breeders' Association of America; but it doesn't necessarily mean a person has to be a member to belong to the Georgia Racking Horse Association.
A group was appointed to form a committee to work out a sanction for judges and a suitable point system for shows.
All our shows will be sanctioned by The Racking Horse Breeders' Association of America, but we'll also include some open classes for nonregistered horses.
We hope to have our Georgia Racking Horse Association incorporated soon, then the Racking Horse Breeders' Association of America will grant us a charter. Since our original meeting, applications for membership have been coming in daily.
The Georgia Racking Horse Association has gotten off to a wonderful start. If you a.re interested and like to be where the action is; then our Georgia Racking Horse Association is for you.

Weights Error
The Weights List published in last week's Market Bulletin listed peaches as weighing 64 pounds per bushel. This should have been 50 pounds. We hope this caused no one any inconvenience.

Russian Hogs
Attach Georgia
The Russians are coming ... the wild Russian hogs, that is. Have you seen any of these ferocious critters that like to destroy crops, outrun dogs and scare people?
Rumors are that these wild hogs are on the loose in Georgia. They're dangerous.
Several reports from the Pine Mountain area have come to the attention of the Georgia Department of Agriculture regarding the destruction of crops by these hogs.
It seems a group of "professional hog hunters" have tried in vain to capture these animals but to no avail. The hogs outran the dogs and hunters.
If you have seen these wild hogs, please let us know. If you know of a remedy, let us know.
Protect Figs
Below Fall Line
The fig, a semi-tropical plant, is adapted to growing conditions below the Fall Line in Georgia.
Figs can be grown north of this line, but they should be set near buildings or in front of tall fences for protection against .north and northwest winds.

Mid to late summer occasionally is considered to be a period of inactivity for many gardeners. Contrary to this opinion successful gardeners with attractive annuals, perennials, vegetables and shrubs are usually going at a rather hectic pace.

Powers' Crossroads
4th County Fair Quality exhibits representing the
finest in the craftsman's art, traditional American entertainment and "mouth watering" food are being emphasized during the Fourth Annual Powers' Crossroads Country Fair, a broadbased community festival of the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce.
This "World's Largest and BestKnown Arts and Crafts Festival" is again being scheduled at the famous Powers' Crossroads, ten miles southwest of Newnan on Georgia Hlgnway 34, from Friday, August 30th through Labor Day, Monday, September 2nd.
Visitors to the Powers' Crossroads Country Fair will see approximately four hundred exhibits representing the creative excellence of over fifteen hundred individual exhibitors. Much of the charm of the Festival is the result of careful planning to preserve the natural rustic beauty of the 125 acre sylvan site under great oaks where the exhibitors display an amazing array of painting, sculpture, metal working, woodcraft, leathercrafts, lace making, floral masterpieces, macrame, and culinary delights. Every item displayed is handmade. Many of the Powers' Crossroads artisans practice vanishing arts reminiscent of Colonial days. The majority of the craftsmen demonstrate their skills on the site as another fascinating characteristic of a visit to Powers' Crossroads.

Activities are related to maintaining and sprucing up annuals and perennials or digging, dividing and resetting iris and daylilies.
Looking at ways to make certain those annuals or bedding plants continue to be a"ractive until frost comes should be given emphasis. To insure continued growth and flowering, keep all flower heads removed as they fade.
Marigolds, zinnias, salvia, nicotiana can produce spectacular fall results if given this care. Pinch or snip away the old flowers, fertilize the flower bed lightly and make certain there is adequate soil moisture at all times. Even petunias can be revitalized clip or prune the old

4-H Congress
Now In Progress
The State 4-H Congress is being held in Atlanta this week.
The Congress brings to a climax the Georgia 4-H year. During this event the nearly 350 District Senior Champions will vie for state honors and the privilege of representing Georgia at the National 4-H Congress in Chicago, Illinois. These district champions were selected from the more than 7,000 county champions who participated in the five achievement meetings on the district level.
Weeds Limit

Lightning Danger Great

The risk from lightning is greater than you may think.
It is estimated that some 1,800 thunderstorms are in progress over the earth at any given moment, with
lightning striking the earth 100 times each second.
Contrary to popular belief, lightning is more of a threat than tornadoes or hurricanes. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, lightning kills about 150
persons per year and injures about 250.
Property loss from fire and other damage, livestock deaths, and forest fires is estimated at over $100 million annually.
When lightning is close, the thunder is a sharp explosive sound.
Sound travels through air at about 1,100 feet about one-fifth of a

mile per second. This allows one to figure distance from the lightning bolt by counting the number of seconds between lightning and thunder, and dividing by five.

Soybeans
Weeds are a major factor limiting soybean yields and profits in Georgia. Weeds reduce yields through competition for light, moisture, water and nutrients.
In one Georgia experiment, soybeans grown in competition with common cocklebur and Florida beggarweed yielded 82 per cent less than weed-free soybeans.
Freezing Fruits
You can improve practically all fruits for freezing if you pick them when they are fully developed and well colored, then let them ripen and mellow thoroughly.
To speed mellowing and ripening, spread your fruits in a clean place. Hold peaches, plums, figs and most berries overnight; apples and pears several days.

WHIPPED CREAM CAKE

1 cup sweet cream 1/2 teaspoon salt 11/2 cups sugar 1/2 cup water

3 egg whites 3 teaspoons
baking powder 2 cups pastry flour 1 teaspoon vanilla

Whip cream until stiff. Beat egg whites stiff, mix together lightly; add water and vanilla. Then add, a little at a time, the dry ingredients which have been sifted together twice. Bake about 30 minutes at 350 degrees F.

CHOCOLATE MOUSSE

3 squares chocolate
1/2 cup water
6 egg yolks

1 cup sugar 1 pint cream
whipped 1 teaspoon vanilla

Melt chocolate in water and stir until smooth. Beat egg yolks and sugar together and cook over slow fire until thick. Remove from fire and add chocolate. Stir until smooth. Add whipped cream and vanilla. Put into molds. Pack in ice and
salt for 4 hours to freeze.

FROZEN FRUIT SALAD

2 cups canned diced pineapple
2 cups red cherries 2 cups very ripe
bananas, cubed 1 cup mayonnaise

2 cups whipped cream 1 envelope of gelatin
dissolved in 1 cup pineapple and cherry juice

When your brain feels weak and you want to improve your thinking, historians recommend a potion made of germander. Those suffering from gout were treated in the same manner as those with mental afflictions!
This somewhat woody perennial was one of the most popular plants in Renaissance knot gardens. These gardens were intricate low plantings of herbs that interlaced with one another and resembled a knotted rope.
There are several popular varieties of germander: prostratum is low-growing with dark leaves and pink flowers; bush germander has silvery-stems, about 4 to 8 inches high with lavendar-blue spikes of flowers; wall germander can be trained to climb walls and is used in hanging baskets.
All germanders thrive in heat and poor soil but require good drainage. They are members of the Mint family and very hardy.

profusely if given the proper culture. With dahlias, if you have tended them well during the past months, one of the main requirements will be to stake the plants to prevent blowing over or breaking. Use tall stakes (6') and tie at weekly or two week intervals.
If you want to grow exhibition or show blooms, you will need to disbud by removing all but one bud per-cluster. For healthy foliage continue to fertilize monthly. Thoroughly water the soil immediately after application.
Rose gardeners should begin to work to promote the growth of healthy foliage and stems during August and September. Roses will flourish if old flowers and hips (seed pods) are removed.
Other August gardening activities for -your consideration are overgrown clumps of daylilies and iris. They should be dug, divided and reset this month.
Make plans now for purchasing and planting spring flowering bulbs when cold weather arrives. Keep all lawn grasses mowed. Remove clippings and use as mulch materials or in your compost heap.
Here are a few don'ts for August. Do Not prune azaleas, camillias, hydrangeas, or other spring flowering or fruiting shrubs (hollies and pyracantha). Do not make a pinch on garden chrysanthemums they are or have initiated flower buds for fall flowering. Fertilization of shrubs should have been completed in July. Have fun in your garden during the remainder of the growing season.

Would you please give in detail in your Action Line column the best way to handle milk utensils in a one or two cow family? We have had quite an argument (or discussion) among our neighbors, who each have from 1 to 2 cows, as to the right and wrong way to take'Eare of the milk.
Please cover the following points: 1. Use or non-use of detergent in the"wash water. We have one neighbor who says that detergent remains in a thin film over the milk pails, etc. and would be better left off altogether, and using plain hot water instead. Right or wrong? 2. Is the water that comes from the water heater hot enough (around 140 degrees I think) for the "scalding" of milk pails, or must it be heated to a rolling boil on the stove? 3. Is the use of chlorine in the rinsing good? Necessary? Of no use?
Most of us use a separate pail for the cleaning of the cow's bag before starting to milk. We usually handle it in the same manner as the regular milk pail.

We asked the "head milker" who gave this advice; Rinse the milk pails with cold water first, then wash in hot water with added detergent. Rinse with hot water (140F. is fine). The use of chlorine in the rinse water is very desirable. The milk pails should be air dried in an inverted position and protected from flies.

Carl Wheeler, a Terrell County seedsman, was elected President of the Georgia Seedsmen's Association for 1974-75 at the groups Annual Convention in Savannah.
