NUMBER 38

Procedure For Moving Hogs

During Quarantine Explained

Under provisions of the statewide hog quarantine imposed August 26, permits may be obtained to move healthy swine.
The following procedure should be used in making on the farm inspections in order to obtain permits for the movement of healthy swine:
1. Swine consigned for exhibition, special breeder sales, or special feeder sales should have an on the farm inspection by a veterinarian and an official health certificate issued stating that the herd of origin is apparently healthy. The health certificate in this case will serve as a permit.
2. In the case of special feeder sales, the health certificate requirement may be deleted providing the veterinarian communicates to sales management the health status of the herds of origin which are consigning feeder piqs to the sale. Feeder pigs will be required to be ear-notched and

given anti-hog cholera serum the day of the special feeder pig sale.
3. Inspections for movement from one farm to another farm and 4-H and FFA swine to be exhibited at fairs may be made by the local veterinarian, livestock inspector, county agent, or vocational agriculture teachers.
4. The oerson making.inspection should check the herd of origin to determine if the herd is apparently healthy. If no illness is disclosed, notify the state veterinarian's office, and a permit will be mailed for the movement from one farm to another. This permit must accompany swine while in transit.
The above restrictions in no wav affect the movement of slaughter swine. They may still be sold through livestock auction markets or directly to slaughter.
