Soil testing involves analyzing a representative sample of soil from a farm field, lawn, or garden area and determining by chemical methods the acidity and fertility level of the area sampled. Fertilizer and lime recommendations are then made based on the results of the soil analysis for the crop, lawn grass, or plants grown on the area represented by the soil sample.
The soil testing service is available to both rural and urban Georgians. The procedure to follow is to first contact the local county agent who is the official representative of the Cooperative Extension Service in the county. This can be done either by a personal visit to his office or by phone. The

Pest Control License
Violators Fined
The Georgia Department of Agriculture has successfully brought to trial a South Georgia man charged with operating a pest control business without a license. Another man has entered a plea of guilty on the same type violation.
J. D. Rentz of Adel was convicted of operating without a state structural pest control license. He was also convicted of cheating and swindling.
Rentz was sentenced to 12 months in the county work camp to be served on probation and was fined $250 plus court cost. On the cheating and swindling conviction, he was required to refund the swindled money and pay court costs.
The man who entered a guilty plea to charges of operating without a state structual pest control license is A. L. Avera Sr. of Quitman. He paid a fine of $200.
