In Georgia
Georgia is one of the states in the nation that has a meat inspection program that assures the consumer of wholesome meats and meat products produced for intrastate consumption.
The responsibility to insure the public of wholesome meat is charged by state law to the Meat Inspection Division of the Georgia Department of Agriculture.
When you see one of the seals pictured above on fresh meat or any meat product you purchase in Georgia, you know that the meat was derived from a healthy animal and that it was processed in a sanitary manner to assure wholesomeness to the consumer.
This is accomplished by examining each individual animal before slaughter and after slaughter.
Any carcass or part of the animal which shows evidence of disease, parasites, or bruises is condemned and rendered inedible by o dye or some other material.
The Meat Inspection Division also enforces state laws concerning deceptive labeling and adulterating of meat and meat products sold to the public.
During the 1966 fiscal year, department personnel inspected 875,441 head of livestock at slaughtering establishments. Of this number 1,205 were condemned in their entirety. That is less than one half of one per cent.

Look for this stamp on fresh meat for assurance of quality and purity.
In 'addition, 355,591 organs or parts were condemned as diseased or otherwise unwholesome.
The stamps pictured here are the symbols of veterinarians and other state inspectors at work protecting Georgians. It is your symbol of wholesome meat.
Be sure to see the Meat Inspection Program exhibit, in cooperation with the Georgia Independent Meat Packers Association, at the Southeastern Fair, September 28 thru October 7.
