OPPORTUNITIES IN POULTRY

Young People Should Consider Georgia's No.1
Agricultural Industry
By ABIT MASSEY Executive Secretary Georgia Poultry Federation Scholarships, loan funds and at least ten job opportunities per student await poultry graduates at the University of Georgia. The gigantic, growing Georgia poultry industry is creating additional jobs each year. The industry is providing scholarships and loan funds in an effort to attract this needed trained manpower. Regardless of a person's primary interest farming, management, genetics, nutrition, physiology, pathology, sales, engineering, journalism, product development, foreign trade, public service and most other fields he will find it has a place in the poultry industry. Poultry is not only the largest segment of Georgia agriculture, but the fastest growing as well. The income from broilers exceeds the income from any other agricultural commodity and eggs follow in second place. Georgia has led the nation in broiler production for sixteen consecutive years and is now the second state in egg production. There is an ever increasing need for trained young people in poultry production and supervision and in processing, feed manufacturing, and numerous allied fields. In 1966 poultry accounted for about 42 percent of total farm income in Georgia. The farm income from poultry increased 55 percent from 1960 to 1966 and jumped 25 percent from 1965 to 1966. Of course, this tells only part of the fantastic story. Poultry is also a vital part of the business and industrial community in Georgia, with increasing importance. Georgia has 250 feed mills, 38 USDA-inspected poultry processing plants, 20USDA graded egg processing plants, countless smaller operations, and numer-

ous manufacturing and distributing firms in allied fields.
The Poultry Capital of the World offers opportunities unlimited in a dynamic industry with an impressive past and a bright future.
The Georgia Poultry Federation is the trade association serving the entire poultry industry in Georgia. It has seven member associations: Georgia Poultry Processors Association, Georgia Poultry Producers Association, Georgia Poultry Improvement Association, Georgia Hatcher Association, Georgia Egg Association, Georgia Feed Association and Georgia Turkey Association.
The Federation joins the Poultry Science Club, Poultry Science Department, and Extension Poultry Science Department in encouraging young people to study Poultry Science and Business. The Federation welcomes the opportunity of arranging tours and discussions to give young people a better understanding of Georgia's gigantic, growing poultry industry.
For further information on opportunities in the Poultry industry in Georgia, write the Georgia Poultry Federation, P. 0. Box 763, Gainesville, Georgia.

U. S. Cotton Exports
Ahead Of Last Year
Rufus Adams, Chairman, Georgia Agricultural Stabilization and conservation State Committee, reported today that U. S. cotton exports this year are running well ahead of those a year earlier.
Through the end of April of this year, which started on August 1, 1966, nearly 4 million bales have been exported compared with less than 3 million during the entire 1965-66 marketing year.
According to Mr. Adams, actual exports during the first nine months of the present marketing year, or through April 30, amounted to 3,725,747 bales, the U. S. Department of Agriculture reported to him.
The sharp increase in exports this year is a factor in reducing the large carryover of cotton in this country.
