HOG CHOLERA PROGRESS
The two chart graphs printed below show the progress of Georgia and the nation in eradicating hog cholera. Now. while the incidence of cholera is low is the time for Georgia hog farmers to double their efforts of "WATCH and REPORT." Cholera can be stopped, and soon. However, if efforts are relaxed because of the good record we now enjoy for 1966, an epidemic could re-occur and cost hog farmers thousands of dollars. WATCH and REPORT! Let's eradicate hog cholera in Georgia.

EARLY DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT REDUCE SICKNESS LOSS
In cooperative participation with the Georgia Department of Agriculture/ eight diagnostic laboratory centers are maintained to aid farmers in the prevention and treatment of disease in poultry and livestock. Poultry farmers may bring sick birds to the nearest poultry lab, which the Georgia Poultry Improvement Association operates by contract. FIRE ANTS
Federal funds for fire ant eradi cation programs have been increas ed this year from $3,300,000 to $5,300,000.
The 1966 Georgia Legislature appropriated $600,000 for Geor gia's fire ant program. If this amount could be increased to $1,000,000, an estimated $2,000,000 in federal funds would be forthcoming.
This would give Georgia a three million dollar fire ant program rather than the current 1.2 million dollar program, speeding up fire ant eradication considerably.
The fire ant has been contained to the Southwest portion of the state through past control efforts.
The imported fire ant with its fiery sting and huge mounds cre ates a health menace and makes operating farm machinery virtual ly impossible.
When storing winter feed for beef cattle, Extension animal scientists at the University of Georgia say a good rule of thumb is to put up one and one-half tons of hay or four to five tons of silage for each cow.
