JEKYLL PROGRESS CONTINUES
ISLAND VARIETY SUITS FAMILY VACATION BUDGET
By BEN W. FORTSON. JR. Secretary Of State
Chairman of the Jekyll Island Authority
Jekyll Island, Georgia's fabulous year round beach resort, has posted a new record in attendance of 2,091,045 visitors
from April 1965 to March of this year. The outstanding success of- Jekyll as a
family beach resort makes possible the expansion of present fun and relaxation
facilities and the development of many new improvements.
Part of JekylPs success is that the
year round resort provides vacation fun for all no matter their vacation budget.
Comfortable accommodations on Jekyll are available from as low as $5 a night for one person, $12 a night for a family
of four. There are over 900 vacation units in
Jekyll Island's motel, hotel, and apartment facilities, which satisfy a variety of tastes. Over 250 efficiencies are for rent. Alsp a number of furnished houses \ire rented on a weekly or monthly basis.
On Georgia's year round family beach
resort, about 300 camping sites offer adventures the excitement of outdoor island living. On Jekyll it is common to see deer, as there are several hundred
wild deer including a few rare white deer. Campers may wish to use the conveniences of electricity, automatic laundry equipment, tap water, hot showers,
and garbage pickup. For vacationers on Jekyll, fine restau-
rants and a cafeteria serve wholesome, plentiful meals at family prices.
Jekyll Island is truly a paradise for fun and relaxation. The inviting, majestic beauty of the Atlantic Ocean is enhanced by nine miles of white satin beaches. Free bath houses and showers are locat-
ed conveniently along the beaches. (Continued On Page 8)
CONVENTION CENTER,-- The Aquarama provides a tropical atmosphere for hundreds of conventions each year. Since this photo was taken, a modern efficient kitchen and serving wing has been added on the left of the main auditorium.
GREAT GOLFING -- The golf courses, like everything else on Jekyll, are open year round.
BEAUTIFUL BEACHES -- The Atlantic Ocean meets Georgia at Jekyll Island's famous beaches.

THE MARKET BULLETIN
MAY 18. 1966
The Aquarama is the center of activity on Jekyll. A 2,200 seat auditorium and a 450 seat auditorium, plus a unique eating and serving arrangement, provided excellent service for over 450 conventions last year at Jekyll. Some conventions have already booked arrangements for 1968.
Also in the Aquarama, an olympicsize swimming pool hosts swimming and diving championship events. The indoor pool, which measures 150 by 65 feet, is now open to the public 9 A.M. to 9 P.M. and maintains a 79 degree temperature all year round. For $1 swimmers may use the pool all day, leaving and return-
ing as often as they please. Although ' fishing and tennis are
greatly enjoyed by Jekyll visitors, golf seems to be the favorite sport other than of course the surf and sand. During February, March and April of this year, the 18-hole Championship Course and
the 9-hole Millionaire's Course hosted 29,328 golfers.
With weather permitting, a new 18hole golf course will be opened this October. A beautiful, modern clubhouse, cenered between Jekyll's three courses, is planned for golfers. The two story building will have lounge and snack areas and a complete pro shop.
Other new improvements on Jekyll are being planned including a teenage recreation center, restoration of the old colonial village, a fishing pier, and a modern inland boat marina which will be built on the intra-coastal waterway providing boat enthusiasts with the finest facilities anywhere on the Atlantic coast for 300 miles north and south of Jekyll Island.
Besides being convenient to boaters, Jekyll Island is easily reached by car from Brunswick. Highways leading to-
ward Brunswick are U. S. 17, 1, 129, 341, 41, 25, 301, 82, and 84.
Also, light airplanes may land in (He new Jekyll Island Airport, which has
clear approaches to the lighted, paved
3,000 feet long runway.
The Jekyll Island Authority, which operates and maintains the island resort, is proud of the continuity of progress and extends an invitation to all Georgians to enjoy the wonderful beaches and pieliie areas on Jekyll. Adding to the excitement of Jekyll's Atlantic beaches, brilliant flowers and tropical trees and historic splendor outline the romantic setting for family vacation fun on fabulous Jekyll Island, the year round beach resort.
