RURAL WATER SYSTEM LOANS

Loans Are Benefit To Georgia Communities

A $675,000 loan to link 7 rural communities in Walker County, Georgia, in a modern water distribution system has been approved by the Farmers Home Administration, Secretary of Agriculture Orville L. Freeman announced today.
Undependable and unprotected sources of water such as shallow wells, cisterns and open streams will give way to a 40-mile pipeline circuit delivering clean water to 600 homes in the Kensington, Cedar Grove, Cassandra, Cooper Heights, Garrett's Chapel, High Point, and Pond Springs sections of the northwestern Georgia county.
The new rural system also will furnish water to a carpet manufacturing plant (Berwick) where many residents of the area are employed, as well as to other industries and businesses, 10 churches and a community center. The source of water will be

Kensington spring. Secretary Freeman said local citizens foresee
substantial new development along the new rural water system, with 20 to 40 new homes planned for construction during its first year of operation.
The Kensington Water Association, a non-profit corporation formed by local citizens, will build and operate the system. The loan was obtained for 35 years at 5 percent interest and will be retired from income of the water system. The Farmers Home Administration will place the loan with a private lender and insure its repayment.
Financing of ru,ral community water, waste disposal and recreation facilities through Farmers Home Administration insured loans, in communities up to 5,500 population where other means of financing are not available, is arranged through the agency's county offices.
